Post-patch: Game very sluggish
Despite my low system specs (P3 866, 512 RAM) the game was running pretty darn well for me before the patch.
After installing the patch, however, there's a world of difference. The interface is slow and unresponsive, sometimes taking five or six clicks to even do what I'm telling it to. Offering contracts is just plain painful with the speed the text changes now. But I can live with that stuff. The real pain comes in the games. Even on "very fast," the text is crawling along so slowly that each pitch is taking long enough that a real pitcher would be warned for slow pace. (An exaggeration, but not by much.) It seems like the only thing that's relatively the same speed is the simming, although it was so fast before, it's entirely possible that it's slowed down too without me noticing a huge difference. Any ideas? As it stands now, the game is pretty much unplayable in PBP mode, which is the way I like to play.

It does seem slower. I found that the gameplay (NOT the play0by-play), but the clicking and whatnot sped up when I switched to the OOTP Blue skin.

I see no real difference in speed. not that it's a bad thing.

It seems more snappy for me, but I've turned off the scrolling ticker, changed to the blue skin, and am using the "quick dialog view" whatever that is.

I've come to the conclusion the demo can't play on my machine. It's sluggish and laggy and it's basically unplayable. I guess OOTP2006 is going to cost me in the neighborhood of $1000 now.

How long were you guys playing before it got slggish? Did you do any long sims? Is this a league that has a few season under it? The reason I'm asking is I'm working with Marc on a memory issue and you may be seeing the effects of this.

The league itself is just a 16 teams, no minors thing, so the memory hit shouldn't be so bad that it's slowing down the entire thing, I wouldn't think.

I started a game with the quickstart made from the league mentioned above, and the game was still very unresponsive and slow even with no history for the league at all. PBP was still painfully slow even during the first at bat of the first game of the season, with SION Network turned off.

I also tried a complete uninstall/delete remains/reinstall, and it was sluggish right away, and even worse after actually starting a league.
This is using brown/green skin (I've also tried blue), click to open menus, ticker turned off, windowed mode (also tried fullscreen... ouch, even worse), and sim info screen turned off.

More info:
The game isn't using more CPU (it's actually 0-6% while idle) or RAM (120K mem usage according to task manager while in a PBP game). It's just... slow. Painfully slow. I also tried disabling my AV (which is AVG Free) and it made no improvement at all. Other games are still playing fine on the system. (Which is good, because had anything gone wrong with my fiancée's WoW time last night, she woulda yelled at me). When it comes down to it, I can live with the interface slowness. But the PBP slowness, as mentioned, makes the game completely unplayable for me. I don't understand why the game has slowed down visually in all manners, but seems absolutely fine when it comes to sim speed. While testing earlier, it still only took about a minute to simulate a full season (with no minors, of course). I'm at a loss.

I'm having the same issues as Azamien. It feels sluggish now. Especially when bringing up player cards. The time between plays during a game seems like it has been bogged down as well.
Simming speed is still lightning quick, though. |

Can you tell me what the CPU usage is when in the middle of the game when the slowness is really a problem?

I get the same thing. At very fast, the pbp is very slow. Also, i have no borders around 'Swing Away' 'Take pitch' etc.

I did some more testing with Task Manager open, and here's what it's doing for me.
The memory usage stays pretty even at around 120K. The CPU really spikes, though, when I do anything except for idle. During PBP, it spikes anywhere in the 70%-100% range. When switching screens, opening player info, clicking open dropdown menus... well, pretty much doing anything, it spikes in the 80%-100% range. I know my system is low end, but performance wasn't nearly this bad before the patch. With the ticker being togglable, I would've expected the opposite result.

Same problem for me - its been unplayably slow post=patch (worked fine before, although I couldn't play due to the minor league player bug).
