Default Install Location
A request for next install build and future OOTP releases. Give me a choice on where to put the data folders!!!!! I had to follow the How to move game data off of a network drive FAQ for no good reason. My documents is NOT supposed to be used for this sort of stuff.
Thanks. |

Good. An extra drop down would have taken care of it for me...I was assuming at least initially that they would be under the program files directory(which is kinda klunky too), but as it is I have all kinds of game data with its own special directory that I would have tossed it to.
Good to know its being discussed. Thanks for the update. |

If I remembering reading correctly, I think this issue is related to the way Vista works, so even though you may not have Windows Vista, the game has to setup this way for those that do.
Hopefully it will be able to be customized for future versions.

Vista is a pig. I work in the IT field and I probably would still be on Windows 2000 if XP didn't have optimizations for Remote Desktop/Citrix. I guarantee that I won't be updating to Vista until I must.
Just like MS to hijack something for a totally new unrelated purpose... Last edited by Khrog; 03-22-2007 at 02:07 PM. |

Yes, this is related to Vista. This is how Vista prefers programs to be stored and this was done in order to comply with that.

After initial install, you can tell OOTP where to save your data by setting the option in "OOTP Preferences". You can't store it on a network drive, however.

That isn't the problem. In my case with a redirected My Docs, the install proceeds naturally and installs the files in the network my docs anyways which prevented me from being able to even launch OOTP 2007 at all until I resolved the issue.

Yes, it's a bug that the game can't handle a networked my documents folder.
My Documents should be where the game saves any user data to, such as saved games. Preferences should go in the user's application data folder. This was the recommended behaviour for XP, but now Vista is making it a requirement(since the game must run for a non-administrator). Hence the changeover. |

I'm going to go ahead and close this. Markus and crew will be looking at this issue further (based on a lot of screaming from the beta team), but to date it's a design decision based on Vista requirements, and there are no immediate plans to change it.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but glad you have the game working! |
