There is a Babe in my 1965 League
OK, I started a historical league in 1965. I then imported the 1920 Babe Ruth and put him on the worse team possible, the NY Mets. I signed him to a decent 5 year contract.
The Babe responded great. Hitting 35-50 home runs for the next 5 years and winning the NL MVP Award his 1st 5 years. The Mets battled near the bottom of the league every year. But during their 5th league with the Babe, they won the division, but during the 1st year of the playoff format, they were eliminated. The Babe then signed a 3 year contract with the Reds. He won 2 more MVP awards and lead the Reds to the World Series grabbing it all the 1st year on the team. Babe had another great year, but during his 3rd year with the Reds, he went on the DL and did not win his MVP for the 1st time. He then signed a new contract the the Chicago White Sox. Chicago had finished 2 games behind the hot Angels, and this was going to bring them over the top. Babe was 37 and moving up in the HR list. Now in 7th place, they were talking that the Babe could pass HR King Hank Aaron. The Babe was on fire, hitting 12 home runs in April and hitting .428. This was the Babe everyone was looking for. The White Sox were in 1st and then it happened. Babe got hurt. His career was over. I was simming this year by year and it was a lot of fun following the Babe. Now I continue. It is 1975 now. The last place Cubs just signed a young guy they called The Kid. Yes, Ted Williams. Can they turn the cubs around? Will they resign him after his 3 year contract or will some other money happy team scoop him up. Time will tell...
