Newbie Historical League Questions
Hey all,
A couple quick questions about running a historical league. 1) Why is there a draft after the season starts? Should that be moved to Nov 1st? Who is being drafted in that draft. I think it's called the ML First Year draft (I'm not in front of the game right now). 2) When a player is drafted where is he placed on the roster? Are they all put into the minor leagues automatically? 3) With financials turned on will salaries automatically rise with inflation (if I start running in 1901 will the salaries be in the millions be the time I get to 2006 and beyond)? 4) If auto expantion is turned on then can you still do other types of expantion? If I wanted to add a Japanese league later could I do that? Thanks |

2. If you have added minors to your league, that is where the draft pick will go. If not, it will go to a reserve roster. 3. Yes. 4. Yes.

One more quick question. In a historical league (if your not acting as commissioner)....can you still be fired as manager?

Yes, you can be fired! I went into commish mode and took over the Mets in 1962, then shut off commish mode and 50 games in with a record of 12 and 38, I was fired! lol Next time I did this, I took over the Houston Colt 45's, and stayed in commish mode as I didn't want to get fired. That would be my suggestion if you want to have any history as a manager.

By default, the draft when done for historical is incorrect.
Lets say the year is 1968 when you are creating your historical season. If you leave the draft set at the default date (May 15th, I think it is), then rookies from 1969 will be the draft held in 1968. So, players that did not start until 1969 in real life will get a head start on their pathetic careers. No, I have two solutions. 1. Change the draft date to NEXT YEAR. So, in the above example, there would be no draft in 1968, but it would happen in 1969 at the date set. 2. Change the draft date to November of the current year. I use to do it in November, but all of the free agency is going on. My trouble there is that the computer may get it's thoughts fogged by the new rookie players coming in while they are still signing free agents. So, I usually set it for around March 15th of the next year. That seems to work best for me. Another way to try it is to have it in September, as you get a chance to see the 'kids' in a few games. But the downside is that teams in the playoffs can use these kids. |
