Team IDs and their relevance

Warning - long and boring post ahead.

I downloaded NomarHits400's roster set.

If you export the files and look at teams.csv you'll see that the ML teams are given IDs between 350 and 379.

I had a look in world.dat and saw that the ML league had those IDs listed against the team IDs so everything was in order.

I decided to clear down teams.dat and take out the teams that weren't in the game anymore. This brought it down from a couple of thousand to 480 teams. I did NOT change any of the IDs of the teams.

Opened up the game and the teams listed under MLB are all wrong.

I checked my teams.dat and the world.dat and the team ids listed for the ML league are still the same ones and the relevant team id in the teams.dat file.

So I went to find why it had picked up the teams it had. I found them all in the teams.csv export file and they occupied lines 351-380, so this made them the 350th - 379th entry in teams.dat and on checking my teams.dat that was the case there as well.

Leagues that had teams with team ids > 480 when I checked in the game didn't have any teams against them after cleaning up.

What this means is that although there is a list of team ids stored against each division it doesn't refer to the team's id, but to the position of that team in the teams.dat file.

I don't imagine that this will get fixed as it's an internal issue that in general doesn't have an effect on players, but it prevents the rosters that have been made from being cleaned up to a smaller size.

I'll have to check whether the same is true for players.dat.

When you write that you "clear down" teams.dat, you mean that you edited the file outside of the game?

This thread can be closed. It was done outside of the game so the issue is not valid.
