Game Crashing, and it's nonstop now!
I was playing OOTP 2007 and it rarely crashed. I get: ootp8.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.
Error signature App Name: ootp8.exe AppVer 2.0.0.0 ModName: ootp8.exe ModVer 2.0.0.0 Offset 000c74e4 Ever since I loaded ootp8 and played a season (I imported the league I was playing in OOTP2007). the error messages have been more frequent and now I cant get passed 6/16/95. I started my custom league in 1980 and Im up to 6/16/95 and now a roadblock. If I sim the week, I get the error message. If I sim a day at a time, it seems to be working. But I have been experiencing this a lot. |

Are any of your .dat files empty? Most notably your faces.dat file?

I went into window manager-->ootpdevelopments---->ootpbaseball8--->data--->facegen and it has the mustaches, beards, pictures, background, teeth, baseball cap base, and a few folders that have a picture of the old windows on a piece of paper and it has a fold on the top right. There's 36 of them. Iyt seems like the error message I described only happens if I sim a week, or click finish a day. i can go a few days then it will crash. I am constantly saving before I hit "finish today". it has become more frequent now (error message)
***This is on the PC*** Im running a fictional league My amateur drafts are about 75-80 rounds a year On the error report, when I click on "view collection of data to be sent: All the way at the bottom it says following files will be included: c:/docume.......locals~1\temp\e166_appcompat.txt Last edited by Mike775; 01-15-2008 at 10:34 PM. |

Sorry for not being more specific, Mike. I was referring to the .dat files in your .lg saved game folder: C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 8\data\saved_games
Just how many leagues, teams, and players do you have in your universe, Mike? Which version of Windows are you using and how much RAM do you have? |

I have 30 teams each with 5 minor league teams (AAA, AA, A, Rookie League, and Short Season). I also have 7 feeder leagues (4-high school and 3-college to make it more realistic) which is why I have 70-80 rounds. I had 8 feeder leagues but I just noticed one of my high school leagues was designated as ML not as HS like the other high school feeder leagues? Could this been the problem? Anyway, I was looking up MLB and the amateur drafts are 70-75 rounds. I added the feeder leagues because I wanted to get all the players from the feeder leagues to feed into the draft....do I have too many feeder leagues? Too many rounds? Whats a good amount of feeder leagues to have about 70 rounds for the amateur draft (looking for realism--->MLB) Last edited by Mike775; 01-16-2008 at 08:49 PM. |

I have a Fictional Baseball League with the same as MLB league---30 teams but with different city names. Each team in my league has 5 minor league teams (AAA, AA, A, short season, and rookie league). I have 7 feeder teams for the amateur draft--4 High school leagues and 3 College leagues. Is this too much? The free agent list is about 2400 players (too much?). How can I lower this if this is the problem? When I was playing OOTP 2007 the crash rarely happened but it started to happen about the time when OOTP 8 was released. I thought If I went to OOTP8 problem would be solved so Im thinking it has something to do with my overall league as a whole. Im running Windows XP service pack 2. I have 2GB ddr2-675 ram and a E6300 Intel Core2duo processor. When I go to the dat files in my saved league files this is what i see: my saved leave is called: mygame.lg...clicking on this folder gives me: ballcaps, import_export, jerseys, messages, news, page_links, settings, and temp as folders and then coaches, ethnicities, faces, human_managers, messages, names, nations2, offers , options, parks, players, retired, scouting, teams, trades, weather, world as DAT files. They are not folder symbols. The look like windows medial player symbols but with blue triangles. i think the symbols are creative media source (my sound card is soundblaster xfi-xm).If i click on faces my creative media scource will pop up and say unable to read to recognize the format of this file. Your memory looks good and while you have too many rounds to your amateur draft (recommended is 5 rounds per level of minor leagues as I recall), it shouldn't cause crashing. It'll just provide you with a heck of a lot of worthless players to drop right after drafting them. The large number of feeder leagues might be slowing you down some, but they again shouldn't cause a crash.
When you right-click your faces.dat file and select properties, what is the size of the file listed? In your game universe, is there an event of importance scheduled in any league for 6/15 or 6/16? That may be a possible cause for your error. |

So if I have 5 levels of minor leagues, I should drop the amateur draft rounds to 25 (maybe squeeze to 30) and instead of having 7 feeder leagues I should delete a few to go down to 2-4? I know you said this might not be the problem but I should "take it down a notch".
The file of the faces.dat is 1.19 MB. type of file: DAT CLicking properties it says below it: open with creative media source (next to this is CHANGE ). 6/15 was the first year player draft. I went thru it and the next day was the crashing. But Ive been able to get to 6/28. When I click finish day it could crash or two days later (in the game) it could crash. I've only started to get the crashing so much in 1995 (the game universe) than previous game years. It's soooo much more frequent. It seems like it only happens when I click: finish day, or sim a week, month, season. No other place does it crash. |

Are you using version 8.0.0.13 of OOTP 8? If you want to try to catch me on AIM, my handle there is the same as on this site, and you could send me a copy of your .dat files so that I could try to reproduce the problem, but other than looking at it, I don't know what to suggest. |

Guys, please start your own threads whenever possible. It's very confusing to try to troubleshoot three separate issues in the same thread. ozuyenacha, I've responded in your thread.
Howlingwolf, do you have any problems when creating and running fictional leagues? |
