Added city to database; game won't acknowledge it

When I type in the city name in the "Options/Ballpark" page, normally I would expect it to "catch," and instead of a pulldown menu saying "Select City," the field below the city name I just typed would have the city and state name. However, for the last half-dozen city names I added to my cities.text file, this hasn't happened -- the field still says "Select City." Clicking on the arrow to the right of "Select City" brings up a popup menu saying only "Select City" -- i.e., with no city names.

I'm using version 8.0.0.13 on a Mac running OSX 10.4.11.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Is this in a league you've already created? Usually the incident you're describing results when attempting to add cities to an already existing universe. The cities.txt file must contain all of the cities you want specifically (Select City) to use in the league before you create the league. Unfortunately, they cannot be added later.

I've managed to do so before, though....

Well, unless something has changed, what probably happened was that you added the city and then created a new league, allowing you then to select that city with the dropdown. In some cases, of course, it will auto pick your city because it's the only one listed with that name. In others, it will select what it thinks you meant, and you're required to double check it and select the one you really want to utilize.

To the best of my recollection, it can't be done with the existing league, only those after using that cities.txt file. If you think you've done it before, it may just be the order in which you executed your tasks.

Then again, I've been wrong before.

Well, I'll keep trying.... Right now the pulldown menu consists solely of "Select City," which tells me I may have to move the team to Select City.

Can you check that the city appears when you go to Explore World and choose that country?

It didn't show up.

I take it there's no way to reimport the city database....

The problem with the re-importing of cities is that if the cities.txt file has changed dramatically there's no obvious way of reallocating players to the correct city if the ID changes.

Odd, having just fired up the Nation Editor I can't find a way of adding a city. I could have sworn it was there.

You mean besides editing cities.txt, right?

Yep. I could have sworn there was a way to do it in game. Otherwise the only way is to start a game again and that should then read in the updated cities.text

And when you say "start," do you mean wipe all the players, records, etc., and begin in Year 1?

Unfortunately yes.

As this is something that can't be done in v8 (and don't know for v9) I'll move this thread to closed.
