No way to avoid crashes
I gave up on MLB rosters. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest patch. I started a new league with all fictional players. Now, the game is crashing even just simming the games out - not even attempting to play out games.
I really thought giving up on MLB rosters would solve it, but it hasn't. Problem is obviously much bigger than thought. If the answer is "disable Norton" I don't consider that an answer, as other software you pay for can coexist with Norton. I have played the game since 2004 and never had these problems.

Norton can be a bit of an arse at times though.

It's the only thing I haven't tried yet. I wish at least there was a way to submit some sort of diagnostic file to tech support so they could definitely say what the conflict was. It's a huge waste of time to have to troubleshoot by trial and error.
With this latest effort I just turned control of all teams over to the PC and simmed a year; it didn't crash. What that means, who knows.

Troubleshooting is a pain, but it is probably the best way to help Markus find the problem. One at a time I would try to run some test leagues with the following options on and off. Norton, facegen, and sound. I used to use McAfee, but it slowed my game down to a crawl. If I wasn't using a brand new computer, I could imagine the game freezing or erroring out because of it.

Please check if 'allow incomplete minors' is enabled in the league options screen (league setup). If it is, please turn it off, and see if that avoids crashes.

Personally, from someone who has worked on and repaired computers for many a year, I always suggest to people that they get rid of Norton because this program causes more problems on computers I have fixed than any one single program. The reason being is that Norton puts a gazillion files on your computer, hidden ones as well. One cannot just delete Norton in the normal way either. All of the files are not taken off. One has to go into search and find anything related to Norton to get rid of it all.
So, with that many files, it is no wonder to me that people have problems with it. You say that it doesn't cause problems with other programs on your computer. Well, if you are using what came with the computer, that has already been fixed by the Computer company. However, if you add a lot of programs to the computer, then you will see problems with some of these programs working with Norton. At least, I have seen many that won't work with Norton. I am not saying that is your problem, however it does appear to me like a problem with the way your computer is set up or a clash with another program. I would try running the game with all of the programs you see on the right side of your task bar turned off and see if this makes a difference. If not, then I would go to the manufacturer of your computer and make sure you have all of the latest updates. Also make sure that you have all of the latest Microsoft updates on your computer as well. Do a defragment of your computer. Run an adware and malware check program to see if one might have snuck in through some back door. And finally, if none of these suggestions help then go to the nearest window to your computer, open it up and then throw the damn computer out it. Just kidding with the last thing. If you are running Vista, this could cause more problems that are almost impossible to find. That is why I gave up on Vista a month ago and am running XP Professional now. Works great and faster. Anyway, just some suggestions. If you are running a Mac, then I am afraid I have no advice. I have never run a Mac, and never would. Just me, so no comments from the peanut gallery please. ![]() Good luck with it anyway! ![]()

I realize this is a new version, but I figured if Norton never bothered the last version of OOTP it wouldn't bother this one. I have tried excluding the OOTP folder from Norton, but I have not tried actually disabling it completely. I will try that if the next patch doesn't help. I am running XP Pro. I was also wondering if Windows desktop search program could interfere. I went into that and omitted the OOTP folders from it, but that didn't seem to help. My overall specs are XP Pro 5.1 build 2600 with 2 G ram and a 3.6 G processor. I do all the Microsoft updates. Overall, my PC is very stable. I used to use a spyware program but have Norton Internet Security that supposedly has spyware protection. I'm really hoping the patch works.

So far it does seem more stable but I guess I'm still getting some crashes. FYI using MLB roster set.

Did you create a new league or continue the old one? The game does not 'fix' existing leagues that had crash problems, please try a freshly created one!

I'm gonna close this thread out for now. Let's take everything over to the 9.1.5 beta thread linked a few posts up. I just listed a whole bunch of questions there. Maybe we can find some common ground between the systems of people that are crashing.
