Concurrent hitting streaks?
I was simming through some history in a league which I intended to use simply to determine which teams where which for my 19th century schedule project. I went to make some dinner and left the league simming.
I came back just in time to watch some 1911 stats fly by. I noticed a steadily rising number in the hitting streak category, held by none other than Ty Cobb. 25,30,35, 40.... I couldn't pull my eyes away! It was simming very quickly, the number would rise with the blink of an eye. 45,50,55,56 and then it stopped. I glanced back at the name, and it said "Joe Jackson" ? Hold everything here, I've gotta check something. Sure enough, Cobb and Jackson started concurrent hitting streaks on the same day of the year! Cobb "only" made it 47 games, though, not the magical 56 of Jackson. What a coincidence. Here's another mind blowing stat: Jackson did an impossible thing that year. Batting average of .4502 Again, Cobb "only" hit .4233 that year. (He got Jackson back the next year by hitting .4223, good enough for 4th and 5th on the all time board)
