Report: A-Rod tested positive in 2003
Report: Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003 while with Texas Rangers - ESPN
I am truly and deeply saddened by this.

Why don't they just make all the results public? This picking and choosing isn't any good for anybody.

Just release a list of people who *didn't* take PEDs.
It would be a smaller list.

lol.
Still can't beat Varitek in a baseball fight. This does not surprise me at all. I am learning to accept that everybody did. |

I tend to think anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 took from the 60's until the mid 00's but I'm guessing my opinion would be in the minority.

I'm of the opinion that usage has probably gone down substantially each decade as testing has become more rigorous. That's probably not a popular opinion with science as great as it is nowadays, but I feel like the awareness of getting caught really shot it down. The steroids may be BETTER these days, but I feel like that were used a lot more often back in the day.

There is no "I" in A-Rod, but there is an "I" on A-Roid!

Here's the SI article in question, btw. 4 independent sources, ouch.
Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in '03, sources tell SI - MLB - SI.com

*SIGH*, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given his personality and having to fit in, but it's still a disappointment. So much for the next great hope of knocking Bonds off the top of the record books. I guess I'll have to wait for Pujols.

The old cliche is that chemistry wins ballgames. I think we've been missing the real meaning of that cliche for at least a few decades (not just in baseball, but in the world of competitive sports in general.) And you (and I) are definitely in the minority. We're also probably right. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I know we are.

I agree. The world will realize that Bonds isn't the only one and that if you are going to punish people, you punish the lot or none at all. I certainly hope this forces the Feds to drop its case against Bonds, because what the government is doing is unfair and unjust.

FWIW, that comment in the first post was a joke. None of this even bothers me a tiny bit in any way, and as far as I'm concerned I view basically every athlete since the dawn of time with the same level of apprehension. Mike Schmidt is my hero, but I not only assume he was one of the many 70's Phillies who took amphetamines like Flinstones' vitamins, it would not surprise me in the least to find out that he was also taking anabolic steroids. It also wouldn't change my opinion of him one way or the other. Same with Mays, Aaron, Mantle, Santo, and anyone else who I love and who played during the steroid era.

![]() Crush them all. If ARod is guilty, give him whatever penalty can be handed out. Do the same to the next guy, and the next one after that... You'll never discover all of the guilty ones, but to let the KNOWN guilty ones off the hook is ridiculous.

The Bonds case is going to go nowhere anyway. He's been accused of lying about taking illegal PEDs, his test from 2003 came up negative for illegal PEDs, and the re-testing of those samples showed the Clear and the Cream, which he admitted to taking during his testimony and which were neither illegal nor banned from baseball at the time. I would be highly surprised if Bonds loses his case given that there's no admissable physical evidence against him and everything else is really sketchy personal testimony.

There is no penalty to be handed out, he tested positive before there were consequences for using steroids (at least w/r/t to baseball.)
Ignoring the fact it's a witch hunt--the gov't isn't technically pursuing Bonds cause he used steroids, they're doing it because he lied under oath. |
