(Fantasy Baseball) Gameday Ritual League Needs Two GMs
Hey folks. In addition to my life as GM of the World Champeen Westinghouse Kings in the Dow Jones Industrials League I'm also commissioner of the Ancestral Hometown league, a Gameday Ritual powered fantasy league that's headed into its fourth full season. Right this minute we have two orphaned teams (out of 10 total) that I need to find owners for: The Vincennes Alices and the Minneapolis Ice Cats. Both teams are, of course, "relocatable" to the ancestral hometown that best suits their new owners.
Gameday Ritual isn't your average yahoo roto "draft 'em and watch" kind of fantasy baseball. It's a points-based game that then turns each weeks' score into the results of a virtual 7-game series b/w the matched up teams. So at the end of the season (24 weeks) you wind up with reasonably realistic 162 game records. Four teams then move into the playoffs, with 1 week for semis and 1 week for the final series. Additionally, it's got a fair amount in common with everyone's favorite text-based baseball sim... Teams are built in a free agency period prior to the beginning of the real baseball season, complete with bidding wars, up to 3 year contracts, no-trade clauses, and all kinds of other craziness. Teams can also be built to take advantage of the quirks of their (customizable) home parks. Once the season's on, GDR teams establish batting orders (complete with bonus points for types of scores by position - clean up hitters earn bonuses for HRs, lead off types get bonuses for steals, etc.), pitching rotations (including an option to go with a 4 man rotation - including the wear and tear on today's pampered starters incumbent in such an approach), and attempt to capitalize on L/R matchups. Also, it's a weekly transaction league, but backups can be specified at each position, so if your starting 2B goes down with a bum hammy on Monday you're not screwed for the week. There's also an annual prospects draft mid-season, so you can get your hands on those young stars early and cheaply, too. Just as soon as Colby Rasmus gets into an actual big league game I'll be signing him for a couple of years at $.5M per year. Another owner has young Evan Longoria locked up for another couple of seasons at .5M as well. So prospect hunters should find this league to their liking. One thing to be aware of, especially if you're used to more traditional fantasy baseball approaches, is that the AHL isn't a very trade heavy league. Most of the returning owners tend to build teams with an eye on the entire season and don't go crazy swapping players left and right. I know that this has discouraged some trade-happy folks in the past, so I wanted to get it out there up front. Anyway, if by some chance you're interested, drop me a line at astro-at-yongi-dot-org or shoot me a PM here though the board. The links above for each team should give you an idea of what you'd be starting out with in terms of already signed players. One last note, we've got a solid core of friendly, intelligent owners right now and I'm more inclined just to contract the league than take any warm body, so I'll be giving preference to folks who express a serious interest and come across as literate, polite types over someone who just says "d00d! I will 0wn0rz j00!" Of course, that's why I'm hunting here in OOTP land instead of just asking my brother-in-law to play ![]()

I should probably point out here that the league is free to join. GDR charges, but I've prepaid for the league so there's no cost to you, dear competitor, to give it a shot. Free is good, they say.
