Possible logo problem?

I haven't gotten too deep into the current OOTP iteration yet, but I think there may be a problem with updating logos. I like to play historical leagues with player photos, stadium pics and actual team logos. Over the years, I've collected, (thanks to the fine, dedicated people working on OOTP mods), pretty much what I need to immerse myself into MLB. Unfortunately, in the early 1900's there are multiple logo updates every year.

I've read the manual and put my starting logos, for a new game in the data\logos folder. When the new game is created, the logos are automatically copied to the saved_games\[my_game].lg\news\html\images folder and creates the logo in 7 different sizes, (including the original). What I see as the problem, is that the second year, (and each subsequent year), I will have to copy the new logo to the data\logos file and delete the 7 logos in the ...\images folder, because the game looks here for logos first. In previous OOTP versions, I only needed to drop the new logo into the ...\images folder and didn't have to even look at what team logos were being copied over. The new system seems much more unwieldy.

First of all, am I accurately describing the situation? If so, is there any sort of workaround? If not, where is my understanding flawed?
