Question, Is This Due To Arbitration?

So I just started the off-season following the 2011 season with the Pirates. This may have happened last off-season, but I play slowly so I can't remember. Anyway, a slew of players everyday are signing 1-year contracts and only 1-year contracts. I literally just got 42 messages in my inbox about other teams signing very good players to 1-year deals. Is this due to arbitration or is it some weird 1-year contract binge?

Yes, those are all arb-eligible players agreeing to contracts.
