Ever throw a perfect game and not win?

I just did. Well, technically, through 9 innings.

My first one, too. Rich Harden with the Rangers had a perfect game going. Unfortunately, Gil Meche had a 2-hitter going against me. Scoreless through nine:

He was tired, but I decided to leave him in for the tenth inning just to see what happens. Of course, walked the first batter:

Go figure. This is unbelieveable. Just finished. I won in the tenth after an RBI single. Here's the box score.

As I'm sure you know it's not possible to throw a perfect game and lose. You can throw a No Hitter and lose though.

That's really gotta suck. Perfect through 9, no perfect game, no no-hitter, no shut-out, no W! Amazing pitchers duel though, reminds me of Halladay-Johnson.

Of course, that's why I said "and not win" instead of "and lose".

Might as well add this.

Very next game, a 4-hit shutout by Derek Holland. I now have 24 consecutive shutout innings over three games.

I think I'm going to play another one...

And that's something that's happened to me before

Lost 1-0.

I've also carried a no-hitter through 11.2 IP. Sadly, the game went 19 innings and he didnt even get a decision.

It used to be possible. Just ask Harvey Haddix.

Harvey Haddix Perfect Game Box Score by Baseball Almanac

Twelve perfect innings and lost the game in the 13th. They used to call this a perfect game until a few years ago. If there is any justice in baseball (and there isn't, of course) this will be recognized as a perfecto again one day.
