create new database or edit quickstart?

Hi

I've been poking around and can't seem to find what I'm looking for...

I had the crazy idea of creating a league based on a historical year in hockey with real players, teams, etc. right down to the junior leagues and low minors of a given year- I figure with a few well thought out excel formulas I could transfer the hockey stats to baseball stats with a minimum of fuss - good enough for a starting point anyway...

I would rather create a database than do up a quickstart and edit every individual player/team in the game; that way I could add to it when the spirit moved me and recreate other years etc - with a minimum of fuss - I wouldn't have to redo the same work.

My question is - am I ASKING FOR WAAAY TOO MUCH WORK BY TRYING TO CREATE A DATABASE FROM SCRATCH? I can see well enough how to format/edit/create the .csv files, but the .odb I'm unsure of...

Any thoughts? Is there a thread detailing how to build up a database from scratch? Is this even possible?

I thought I read somewhere in the past about orc and hobbit leagues - but I guess those could have just have been done by simply changing the name files...

Anyways, any pointers greatly appreciated

As long as you base your league after real stats as opposed to neutralized stats, you won't need to have an .odb file.

You will need to have your versions of

master
batting
batting2 (needed even though you are not using neutralized stats - the file will still have to be here)
pitching
pitching2 (see batting2)
fielding
fielding2 (see batting2)
fieldingOF
fieldingOF2 (see batting2)
UniNumbers
Teams
TeamFranchaises

Good luck.

(NOTE: If you have OOTPX, those files contain the field headers in row 1 which make it easier to create these files. They are not present in OOTP 11)

One last question - how do you handle minor leaguers and players who have yet to play in the majors in a database?
