How to Avoid CPU Inserting Relievers Not Listed in Bullpen

It's late September, I've clinched the division, and I'm trying to rest all my starters for a playoff run. Yet the CPU keeps inserting players who are not listed in the bullpen into games.

Is there any way to fix this? I have the unpatched version by the way.

Anybody?

Should I just set my starters' and relievers' pitch counts to 1 for each of them?

I don't know the answer but I'd be glad to bump the thread for you and maybe someone who does can help you out.

I think I've come up with a solution.

Turn off the "refuse to be demoted" feature and simply call down those players to Short Season A who I want to rest. Since it's been recently revealed by the developers that rust only applies when recovering from injuries and when entering spring training, my players' effectiveness should be up to par when I call them up for the postseason.

The only problem is I want to avoid my regular players from becoming injured, but I don't know exactly when the Short Season A ends. Can someone help me with this?

Just wondering. Why are you using an unpatched version?

I would recommend that you go over to the "Recommendations for OOTP 12" part of the forum and ask for some sort of a feature that allows you to forcibly sit players and only allow their use by the AI manager if there is an emergency situation in which there is an injury (or no more tired pitchers remaining) and there are no more players remaining on the bench or bullpen. This would be a good addition to that version.

An easier workaround, if you are playing in Commissioner Mode (click the Commissioner Mode checkbox on the Manager Options tab of your Manager home page, if it isn't already checked), is to go over to the Editor tab of your player's player profile page and assign him a 1-day (or longer) injury. I have also occasionally hidden pitchers that I didn't want pitching in the starting rotation list (but be careful that you don't have the pitch the most rested guy option active).

Something I had forgotten about from a previous version and just found again last night is that you can set strategies for individual players.

Bad news is that I thought maybe there was a setting that might somehow keep the player from playing, but no.

So this would probably be the place for it and for your suggestion for XII.

How about this idea - you could change his assigned position to something they do not even have a rating in, maybe that would help?

Otherwise I am wondering why the player would be used unless your other players are not rested enough?

Baseball for Windows (which I was hooked on prior to OOTP) had a BENCH feature. You could use it on a by-game basis or long term. Something like this should be easy enough to institute.

I finally figured out a permanent solution.

1) For batters, simply take them off your lineup and change your strategy to NEVER allow pinch hitters and pinch runners.

2) For pitchers, simply change them all to DHs.

No more pointless injuries when you've already clinched the #1 seed in the playoffs!

Doesn't changing the position affect morale slightly though?
