Washington Nationals: The Strasburg Years
Hey guys. I'm just starting the dynasty that YOU the people decided on on my poll, and I will be recording my activities as General Manager of The Washington Nationals. As much comment and feedback as possible would be great. Will have the rosters up in a bit. Thanks!

2010 Washington Nationals Pitching
![]() Rotation SP John Lannan The Opening Day starter. Lannan will enter his fourth year as a National, and the lefty have his $ 424,000 contract that will be renewed at the end of this season. 9-15, 3.88 ERA with 89 K/68 BB in 2009. SP Jason Marquis The big pitching spend in the offseason, with 7.5 million over 2 years. The 31-year old vet will be entering his 11th year in the bigs, and the Nats will be his 5th team. 15-13, 4,04 with 115 K/ 80 BB in 2009 with Colorado. SP Stephen Strasburg The man of the hour. Will he have the Cy Young-filled Hall of Fame career we all want? Or will he fizzle and become a nobody in a few years? No one knows, but all we can do is watch and marvel. He will be entering his rookie year. SP Scott Olson Olson was received in a trade with Florida last year, and for some reason only played 11 games last year, probably due to injury. The lefty is fairly run-of-the-mill, and could be seeing bullpen time by the end of the year. 2-4, 6.03 with 42 K/25 BB in 2009. SP Jason Bergmann Spent all of last year as a reliever, and was pushed up to the rotation this year. I don’t really trust this, and unless he pulls a consistent first half, he’ll move back to the ‘pen. 2-4, 4.50 with 40 K/25 BB in 56 games in relief in 2009. Bullpen MR J.D. Martin Spot Starter. May work his way into the rotation if Bergmann or Olson don’t work out. 5-4, 4.44 with 37 K/24 BB as a starter in 2009. MR Tyler Clippard Tyler “Tyler #1” Clippard comes in as probably most reliable in my bullpen. Only 25, should last in my ‘pen for a longtime. 4-2, 2.69 with 67 K/32 BB in 41 games in relief in 2009. MR Sean Burnett The only lefty in my bullpen, and will probably become my left-handed specialist. 1-2, 1 SV, 3.06 with 23 K/15 BB in 38 games in relief in 2009. MR Joel Peralta 34 years old and a 6.20 ERA in 2009? Don’t be surprised to see him in AAA Syracuse by the end of the year. 0-3, 6.20 22 K/12 BB in 27 games in relief in 2009. MR Brian Bruney Came in a deal from the Yankees this offseason, and is officially one of my two set-up men, and will give some much needed depth to the rotation. 5-0, 3.92, 36 K/23 BB in 44 games in relief with New York in 2009. MR Tyler Walker “Tyler #2” is the second set-up man, and the 33-year old will (hopefully) be a big asset coming out of the bullpen. 2-1, 3.06, 27 K/9 BB in 32 games in relief with Philadelphia in 2009. CL Matt Capps Let’s just say that Matt will “Capp” of most of most leads he’s given (Get it? Funny, ha?). Signed a cool 1 year, 3.5 million dollar deal, and hopefully I won’t have to play any “Pass-around-the-Closer” with my bullpen. 4-8, 5.80 46 K/17 BB in 57 games in relief with Pittsburgh in 2009. On DL SP Chien-Ming Wang (15-day, sore shoulder, 4 weeks). 1-6, 9.64, 29 K/19 BB in 9 games as starter, and 3 in relief with New York in 2009. SP Jordan Zimmermann (60-day, elbow tendinitis, 6 months). 3-5, 4.63, 92 K/ 29 BB in 2009. Prospects SP Stephen Strasburg (#1 Washington, #2 Majors) SP Jordan Zimmermann (#2 Washington, #26 Majors) SP Ross Detwiler, AA Harrisburg (#6 Washington) SP Collin Balester, AAA Syracuse (#7 Washington) SP Bradley Meyers, AA Harrisburg (#9 Washington) Last edited by Rokran; 11-07-2010 at 06:34 AM. |

2010 Washington Nationals Position Players
![]() Position players Catchers C Ivan Rodriguez ‘Pudge’ will enter the season a ripe old age of 38, and he isn’t the hitter he used to be. I doubt I’ll be using him as an every-day player by season’s end. .249, 10 HR’s, 47 RBI’s with Houston and Texas in 2009. C Carlos Maldonado With normal backup Jesus Flores on the DL, Maldonado will have to be a temporary back-up to Rodriguez. Signed a minor league contract with the Nationals in the offseason, and will be sent back to AAA when Flores returns. .208, 2 HR’s, 4 RBI’s with Pittsburgh in 2009. Infielders 1B/3B/OF Mike Morse Career bench-player, probably just use Morse as a occasional corner-fielder and pinch-hitter. May be a starter if injuries go down. .250, 3 HR’s, 10 RBI’s in 2009. 1B Kevin Millar Signed veteran Millar as a back-up first-base behind Dunn, and a righty pinch hitter. Free agent at the end of the year. .223, 7 HR’s, 29 RBI’s with Toronto in 2009. 1B/LF/RF Adam Dunn My big power lefty, and will probably be traded, as I have no intention of re-signing him. Will be a free agent at the end of the year. .267, 38 HR’s, 105 RBI’s in 2009. 2B/SS Ian Desmond Starting second base for this season, and will be entering what is technically his rookie season. A good mixture of hitting and speed. .280, 4 HR’s, 12 RBI’s during 21 games in 2009. 2B/3B Adam Kennedy Backup infielder and occasional pinch runner. Not much else. .289, 11 HR’s, 63 RBI’s with Oakland in 2009. 2B/SS Cristian Guzman The veteran middle-infielder will be reliable at short, and good in the two-hole. .284, 6 HR’s, 52 RBI’s in 2009. 3B Ryan Zimmerman The franchise player (next to Strasburg, of course). Will bring a big righty bat and a brick wall at third. Outfielders CF Nyjer Morgan The hot-headed outfielder will bring a bit of speed around the base-paths and will get base-hits. Strangely, OOTP says that he’s only a “Natural born leader” and mentions nothing about the fact that he is the world’s biggest douche. .307, 3 HR’s, 37 RBI’s with Pittsburgh and Washington in 2009. LF/RF Josh Willingham Surprisingly strong hitter, and should be good in the starting lineup. Probably start him at left-field. .260, 24 HR’s, 61 RBI’s in 2009 OF Willie Harris My best bench player. Can play anywhere in the outfield, runs fast and not bad with the bat. May get a few starts here and there. .235, 7 HR’s, 27 RBI’s in 2009. LF Jerry Owens Will be a good pinch-runner, and may start in left a few time. Hasn’t got the strongest bat though. May also spend some time in AAA if someone out performs him. .083, 0 HR’s, 0 RBI’s in 12 games with Chicago (A) in 2009. On DL C Jesus Flores (15-day, mild shoulder strain 2-3 months) .301, 4 HR’s, 15 RBI’s in 29 games in 2009. Prospects C Derek Norris, A Hagerstown (#3 Washington, #90 Majors) 2B Ian Desmond (#4 Washington) CF Eury Perez, A Potomac (#5 Washington) RF Michael Burgess, A Potomac (#8 Washington) CF Destin Hood, S A Vermont (#15 Washington) |
