"The player is out of option years" dialog
A big speed bump for me in this game is the dialog box that pops up when a player is out of options and has to clear waivers before being sent down. You have to click the OK button, then go to the player again and re-navigate to the Waive and Designate for Assignment item in the menu. It would be aces if the original dialog box that popped up just added a "Do you want to do this?" message and had two buttons "Yes, Waive and Designate for Assignment" or "No".

I think a check box in options for players with less than 2 options and on the 40 man roster that prevents them from being auto called up for spring training would be great as well. I hate it when options are burned without me knowing and then find out a 20 year old prospect has no more options left because he had a major league contract after the last draft. (because he was a high pick, etc)

Plus when on the roster screen you can see if a player is out of options, saving yourself plenty of time n clicking. |

First, in real life, ALL players on the 40-man roster are a part of the major league club's spring training. The player being there during spring training doesn't matter for options purposes; all that matters is whether the player is in the minor leagues during the regular season. If he is, then an option is used. If not, and he spends the entire season on the active roster, then an option is not used.

Regardless of the other ways of going about it, there's still no good reason not to do it the way Matches suggested. The OOTP player has obviously indicated a desire to send the ball-player down, so why make him start over at the beginning again if the waivers warning happens to come up?
Imagine a piece of software, where you tried to print and it told you "You have to Save before you can print." In the past a programmer could get away with expecting the user to manually do a save and then come back and print again. These days it's expected that the user will be given the choice to "Save and Print" in one shot after seeing the warning. Last edited by Peterk; 10-21-2011 at 02:03 AM. |

Besides, in real life clubs decide during spring training which of their younger players will make the active roster. Those that are deemed not yet ready are optioned to the minors during spring training. (Heading into the last week of spring training MLB clubs typically have 28-29 players still on the active roster. It's during that last week that clubs determine the final 3-4 players to be trimmed from the active roster.) Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 10-21-2011 at 03:12 AM. |

Sorry about that, my response was more to Bluenoser and the original suggestion.
Regarding spring training. In V11, I'm pretty sure that end of spring training demotions are burning options. Did that get fixed/changed in v12? |

Again, in OOTP, if a player on the 40-man roster spends even one day in the minor leagues during the regular season, an option is used. (In real life, it's a bit more forgiving: a player can spend up to 19 days in the minors during the regular season without it counting as an option.) So the fact the player is sent down during spring training is irrelevant. He would have been in the minors anyway once the regular season started, and that uses an option. |
