Point system idea for an online league
Yeah, so I was experimenting around a little with a point system, keeping track of it in Excel.
There are two different point rankings, for both players and teams: Reward points: Player of the game gets 1 point. Player of the week = 3 pts. Batter/Pitcher of the month = 5 Pts. And Rookie of the Month = 4. Triple Crown winners get 10 points. Cy Young and batting champion each get 8. Performance Pts: 3 Pts. for getting #1 performance of the day. 2 for #2, and 1 for #1. There is a total pts. column for each player, and total points for each team. I was thinking of something along the lines of using these points for player upgrades. Team points could be used for coaching upgrades, and maybe team upgrades, like Market Size, and so forth. I was also thinking that you could use your team points to upgrade any particular player, but would cost more than it would cost if you used that players' points to upgrade himself. For instance: Say your Ace wins 8 player of the game Awards, 1 pitcher of the month award, and 3 player of the week awards. He is also the Cy Young winner. He has also won Performance of the Day #1 3 times, #2 4 times, and #3 5 times. His total points for the year would be 52 Total Points. 30 Award points, and and 22 Performance points. The team also earns every single point he did. Now, you could use your Ace's points to upgrade only his own ratings. Something like 5 points for any rating increase of 1 of your choosing. Maybe you could spend 10 points to increase his personality ratings. For the team points your team earned, maybe it should cost 50 pts. to increase fan loyalty or market size. Maybe you have a few players that didn't earn any points at all. You could use your team points, but instead of spending 5 points for each increment of 1, it would cost 10 team points. Maybe you could also trade your team points in for cash. Starting with a minimum of 100 points, which could net you an extra million dollars in cash. I dunno. I have an experimental league I am messing around with, and so far, it works. I am thinking of also using it as an international relegation league. Only problem: It's quite a bit of work, to keep track of every single player of the game, for every single game, every single day. Last edited by Vinny P.; 03-05-2012 at 04:55 PM. |

Well not only is it an immense amount of work but, like most schemes of this kind, it would appear to have no goal but to increase the gap between the best and the worst still further. As improvement of one's lot tends toward impossibility the number of participants in leagues tends toward zero (though there will always be a view who delight in winning every season).
