Winning it all: The Quest of the Tampa Bay Lightning

Background: I am a General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the PBDL online league (A great league may I add). I never did a dynasty report before, so I decided to do so now. The league is a 24 team promotion relegation league, with 8 team sub leagues. The season just ended, and the next sim starts the draft. Enjoy!

Entry 1: Beginning: Well, time to start anew. Time to get into the offseason. Salary arbitrations were uneventful, so it's drafting time. We have the fifth pick, so I hope a lot of good came come out of it. I usually will go BPA, with good intangibles. I am one of the most aggressive GMs- no, it's not even close. I haven't made a trade yet, but I have a couple in the works, including a huge one.

I love promotion/relegation leagues, and if I didn't have such complications with online leagues, I would join this one. Best of luck!

Season Recap

Entry 2: In conclusion

What a season we had. In this league, the seasons are shorter, and every game counts. We had one of the best statistical teams in the league, but the worst Pythagorean differences. The season was the definition of up and down. The month of May was the worst, where we fell to last place by 2 games. One week, we went 0-6, 4 losses by one run. But, a big trade at the deadline really turned this team around. By trading for fire balling Renato Cercigiani, the team solidified its position as the leagues best pitching staff. But pitching didn't get us into this mess. We had dead bats. Superstar Richard Smith was cold for two months. Slugger David Wells was hurt. Star player Murdock Walley was hurt for the season. We needed hot bats, and fast. And did they heat up. Third baseman Bernard Mullins went on no uncertain terms. We settled onto the last week, in sixth place, safely out of relegation, but playoffs were slim. But a strong week lead to a three way tie, and a one game playoff versus Ottowa got us in. Then, playoffs came. We demolished the top seeded Devils, lead by amazing pitching. Ace extrodinare Spike McCoy was lights out. Chris Sorenson, an ace by everything but name, was also dominant. Longest name ever, Bintang Djojohadiksumo was great, limiting their batters. And rookie prospect extrodinaire, Lucas Martin, the number one pitching prospect in all of baseball, didnt look like top prospect. He looked like a superstar in his prime, throwing a 4 hit shutout in replacement for a hurt Cercigiani. But against the New York Rangers, everything stalled, and we dropped the series 5-2. So, onto the new season.

Alright, I got my power back today. Stupid hurricane. But I dont forget my dynasty report!

Here's the team overview:

Pitching:

4-man rotation
No overall ratings
1-20 for ratings
Age, Name, Current (Stuff, Movement, Control), Potential
25 Spike McCoy 17/13/11, 17/13/11
34 Chris Sorenson 12/16/13. 12/17/14
26 Renato Cercigiani 18/12/10, 19/12/11
22 Lucas Martin 15/13/8, 15/14/17
NOTES: The unquestioned strength of the team. What we have here is 3 aces, and the top pitching prospect in the league. Sorenson is on his last year, but still has the elite movement that makes him an ace. Martin still needs a year or two for full potential, but can be a solid pitcher as he is now. Renato has arguably the best stuff in the sub league, and he may have the strikeout crown at the end of the season. McCoy, is, well the ace of aces here. He could win the Cy Young.

Bullpen:

Spot Starter
24 Bintang Djojohadiksumo 13/12/9, 16/12/13

Middle Relievers
35 Pierre Martin 13/13/12,13/14/12
23 Casey Spears 10/11/15, 13/11/15
27 Matt Johunston 13/9/14,13/9/14
24 Eric Thomas 15/11/7, 15/11/10
32 Andre Barnes 11/16/13,11/16/13

Setup Man
33 Jeremy Matthews 17/14/9, 17/14/9

Closer
28 Edmund Easson 18/17/13, 20/17/13

NOTES:
I am pretty happy with my bullpen. We have a nice mix of vets(Matthews, Martin, Barnes) and youngins (Thomas, Spears, Djojo). Easson is a top 3 closer in the league. Djojo will be a fifth starter in spring training, and may get the job over Martin. If not, he'll be an outstanding reliever, with a stuff bonus.

Infielders

26 Don Phillips 15/12/9/5/19, 15/12/9/5/19 (First Base)

27 Doug Wells 9/15/16/10/6, 9/15/16/10/6 (All Positions)

33 Bernard Mullins 16/13/8/11/11, 16/13/8/11/11 (Second and Third)

Outfielders

27 Ryan Kearney 14/11/4/5/17

30 Richard Smith 11/14/17/14/12

29 Marcus Rasmussen 11/13/12/12/12

27 Jesus Trevino 15/15/3/9/12

36 Murdock Walley 12/9/16/7/8/12

Analysis:
I'm more of a pitching first guy in this league. This is not one of the more overpowering offenses. Still its not bad by any means. Richard Smith is one of the most dominant players in the league. Walley, Wells also have excellent power. Contreras is a good 5 hitter. The best part is the flexibility in position. Wells and Mullins can play multiple positions well, so I have some leeway. In the OF, both Rasmussen and Smith have top 3 speed.

I have to decide between Vic Dooley and Morgan Lewis. Lewis is a top prospect and has slightly better LHP stats, where Im weaker. Still, I dont want to push him up too fast. What would you do?
