How is overall rating calculated?

As a beginner who just starts this amazing game, I have a trivial question on overall rating calculation. I find that even by default where overall rating is only based on pure ratings, it still may change day by day, while his other ratings keep unchanged. And according to the manual, the overall rating is a relative evaluation compared to the other players in the league, so two players in the same position should keep the same ranking in short period. But I find that, e.g., Cano and Pedroia’s OVR ratings are 78 and 77 in some day, while they become 77 and 80 correspondingly in the next day. So I’m so puzzling how OVR rating is calculated. Is there any underlying factors can affect the OVR rating?

I believe, that, by default, stats enter into the equation.....

By default, OVR rating should not be based on AI evaluation. But even I give 100% weight to pure ratings and 0% weight to the stats in AI evaluation, the OVR rating still fluctuates. If stats matter, why the rating of a player with very good performance goes down? I feel this part is confusing, maybe I misunderstand something.

Could be changing because of the AI changing player's positions around.

Unless of course you have players not ranked by positions checked.

Or it could be that your scout is changing his opinion on players as he updates. Are you playing with 100% accurate ratings? OVR based on pure ratings is the same thing as setting your AI eval settings to 100% ratings as far as I know. I dont think it mean the ratings are 100% correct unless you turn scouting off or go with 100% accurate.

I wouldn't worry about the overall ratings fluctuating; they are only useful as a rough guide anyway....

Change a certain players position and you will often see dramatic OVR ratings changes. The players individual ratings, contact power etc. do not change. As an example a better than average CF with little power may drop in OVR when set at RF or LF because his comparisons are to other power hitters.
