Paramount League of Baseball Clubs

As the turn of the century came the country is prepared for a world of change both in living and in innovation. The game of Baseball is no exception to this and the first months of the new century brought major change to the most popular game in the land.

For 30 years the game has been filled with corruption, gambling, and segregation, now a new day dawns. Former league innovators like Ban Johnson have been put aside and a new face to the game has come in and made sweeping changes to a new league.

Thirty year old Theo Epstein has started a new league along with partner Bob Costas and mentor and affiliate Bill James that will both clean up the game and make it fresh and new for the country. It was announced that any and all players that were involved in past professional leagues will not be eligible for the new league thus making the new league full of young talent from all parts of the globe. In fact most players in the league will be under the age of 23.

The New League will also expand to the International scene, with teams in Cuba and Mexico expected. A team from Los Angeles is also expected to be included. Currently it appears that there will be a 12 team league with two six team divisions. The top two pennant winners will play for the Championship.

The name of the now accepted and affiliated new face of Baseball? Paramount League of Baseball Clubs.

A farm league known as the Class League will serve as an affiliate and feeder for the new league.

Key Players

Lou Gehrig - 1B Farmer Weaver - CF Hugh Canavan - SP

The Boston team expects to have a winning record this season as top prospect Lou Gehrig gets his feet wet in the minor leagues in Greensboro but will likely be called up soon. The experts however expected the team to struggle in its first season. Tony Boeckel is considered the top third baseman in the league and is among the oldest players in the league at 23. Second baseman Pinky Higgins is considered the most popular player and a man the team can rally around.

Expected 1900 Record: 70-92

Team owner Sam Malone quote: "We expect to bring winning baseball to our city and all the New England area. We will respect the game and live up to the standard expected by this grand new league."

Key Players

Greg Swindell - SP

Pete OBrien - 2B

Henry Cotto - OF

The experts really think that this is the best team in the league, a look at their roster may not have you convinced. The pitching is definitely deeper and more formitable then other teams with Greg Swindell and Whitney Baker quite a combination. Pete OBrien is the favorite by many to win the batting title and some experts actually think this team will lose less the 50 games. If only the games were played on paper.

Season Prediction: 115-47

Word From the Owner:

Frank Sinatra
"Brooklyn is the most loyal city in America. We expect our players to be loyal and a fan to know these players as part of a family for years to come. We are excited about what lies ahead."

Key Players

Charlie Gehringer - 2B

Carson Skeeter Bigbee

The Stars of DC have a good team with some real talent on their infield as Charlie Gehringer and Home Run Baker should be fixtures in the lineup for years to come. Cowboy Jones is a good ace to have on the team and the Red White and Blue should have a real shot at a pennant in the inaugural season.

1900 Prediction: 88-74

Word from the owner

William Clinton "Baseball is a game for the people to enjoy and be a part of outside of the troubles of the real world. We look to be a team that carries itself with the pride of the nations most prominent city. Sportsmanship will be our rule not our option."

The biggest city has the biggest expectations and pressure to succeed. The Knights have the type of players that likely can play on the big stage and thrive under pressure, none more the Frank Chance. The Knights want to build a legacy from the getgo, they have a decent roster and even some good pitching but experts don't see them going far.

1900 Prediction: 74-88

Word From the Owner:

Donald Trump: "There is no comparison to winning and the greatest city in the country needs to be winners on the field as well. If they can not take the pressure of playing under theses circumstances, they wont last long on the roster."

Maybe the weakest team in the league the Aces have a lot to do with a serious lack of talent. The offense has no real star and the frugal mentality of the team has some worried already. To make matters worse outfielder Lefty Marr has his career up in the air after suffering serious concussion symptoms. Philly fans are demanding and with no games being played yet, anything can happen.

1900 Prediction: 69-93

Key Players

Ed Stein - SP

Tom Paciorek - LF

Cy Perkins - 1B

Ed Stein has a chance to be one of the better arms in the league and Richmond will do its best to be competitive in a market that has to be the smallest in the league. Baseball tends to thrive in this part of the country as Cy Perkins and Red Corriden lead a lineup that should fight for runs and
compete for every base. Predictors have this team looking from the outside in but a pennant race for this team would be fun to watch as the underdogs take on the big fish from New York and Boston.

1900 Predicted Record: 72-90

Word from the owner

Lucas Cain "Baseball has proven it can live and thrive outside of the big cities. We are looking to make Virginia a hotbed for baseball talent and look to run our team in the most proficient of manners to build an organization that is second to none."

Many like the determination and ability of this team with the pitching staff lead by Nick Cullop and Larry Dierker. The Blues have some of the best support in the game and even though there are some questions about how they get funded and if they belong in a clean cut league like this, this season may be a special one for them.

Not a lot of belief in this team as they lack a real showy star on the roster. Still Quinten McCracken is a speedster and Bob O'Farrell is one of the smartest backstops in the league. The Reds could be challenged in the offensive game but this is another team that is in a great baseball city and is looking at building a baseball foundation. The team is run by baseball people from top to bottom.

Baseball comes to Cubs where it has grown in popularity and will represent the Caribbean with pride. The roster is good although the pitching could be an issue, but baseball under the hot sun of Havana will be fun to watch.

The laid back life of California gets its team and some wonder if baseball can prosper out West. The team has a good young nucleus as Gary Carter grew up in the are and will start as the face of the franchise. The Gold Sox have money to spend and are said to be the best franchise to play for with the rich and famous calling this team their own.

Baseball in Mexico is something that really gives any league some real passion. The Mexicans will back their team to the full and the team that they have is made of some hard nosed ballplayers. Key Players

Bobby Bonilla - 1B

Ray Demmitt - RF

Eddie Murray - 1B

Texas has its pride and has some good talent especially two first baseman that can swing the bat, especially young Eddie Murray who may have the smoothest swing in the league. Texas has the talent to win right away and has the deep pockets needed to compete, most think that this team along with New York will dominate the league landscape and market size. The Wild West lives here.

1900 Prediction: 84-78

Word from the owner

JR Ewing
"Winning isn't a belief here but rather an expectation. If we don't get the results we will find someone who does, I don't believe in pressure."
