Add-On Central: Installation Problem with Skins
Maybe this has been pointed out here before, but I downloaded skins for OOTP 14. All of them downloaded successfully, but none of them installed, all giving me the same error message:
Is this a known issue, and is there a fix? |

I had this also.
Work around - in the "Add-ons" folder is another called "Downloads" The skin zip files are in there. You can unzip these and then move the files to their respective folders and all the skins will be installed. Funny thing though - my system was giving me problems and I basically had to wipe my HD and reinstall everything. When I got around to doing OOTP, and did the skins, the download/install worked fine. Go figure... ![]() |

There's a folder for each skin inside the skins folder, 3 in total.
Can you guess which files go in which folder? ![]() Last edited by Bluenoser; 11-01-2013 at 10:47 AM. |

I unzipped the folders to a it created called Skins, as a subfolder of addons. It created a folder for each of the three I downloaded. Do I keep Skins under addons, or do I move it from addons to someplace else? That sounds like what you were suggesting. I just don't know where the someplace else is. |

In your OOTP directory, whichever drive you installed it on, there is a Data folder. Inside that folder is a bunch more, one of them is named skins.
Inside that folder there are 3 folders, appropriately named for each skin. When you unzip the OOTP14 Classic skin - put all those files in the corresponding folder. Do the same for the other two. Also, in each "skin" folder is a file named "skin.bin" Delete it after you've moved the new files in. When you start the game, OOTP will rebuild the skin with the new files. It might take a few seconds longer to start the first time. After that it will be normal. |

I'm just now circling back to this. Thank you very much for the attempt to help, but I don't think this is working based on your instructions.
I moved the zip file (or more exactly, the .gz files) into the folder where the default skin was. I tried to unzip conventionally, but I got 3,000+ errors and no unzipped files. So I opened WinRAR and dragged the file out into the folder. I then renamed the original file there skin.bin.old. This is what that looks like in Windows Explorer: Then I opened up OOTP. It went immediately to Classic Skin, I think because it does not see skin.bin in the folder. When I tried to change to regular OOTP, the screen went black and the game froze. I had to open Task Manager to hard shut down the game. It's a good thing I didn't delete the skin.bin file. It's a good thing I renamed it instead. Otherwise, I'd've lost that OOTP skin completely. What am I doing wrong here? |

The skins need to be unzipped inside the skins folder....(one level up from where you are)....

Here's my home page under the original OOTP 14 skin: Here's the page under the new OOTP 14 skin: They look the same to me. Am I still doing something wrong? |

The only real difference seems to be, when I load a new skin under the original set, the progress bar while waiting only goes a third of the way before completing the load; and under the new skins, the progress bar goes through three complete passes before completing the load. But the result looks exactly the same, at least to me.
