Adding Real International League(s)?
So, I've not been satisfied with the international complex and would like to create a international league alongside my current 24 team league, two in fact. It's for an online league and I'd like to have solid ideas before I propose it.
I'm going to do some testing, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience or thoughts and would be willing to share with me regarding the following idea: --Adding an international high school league that would create young international prospects for bidding on and having it feed into or be part of a smaller international league (8-10 teams) that could generate a couple of free agents teams could sign. That league might also sign unsigned FA from the main league. My questions would be: 1) What are methods of balancing talent for the "older league" so that you get a couple of possible impact players each year but not a ton of them. 2) If teams bid on 40-50 prospects of various talent, what's a good number of feeder teams to have to both provide talent for the older intl league and the main league? What if it's just the high school league? 3) If 2 is the main purpose, is it even possible to have free agents come from the older. Or, is there a way to have some players blossom in the "older" league? Would you drop the older league and just use the high school league? Thanks for any thoughts. |

We went another route with international leagues in the BJHL.
We had a German and a Japanese league. We set their financials higher than ours. Their years to Free Agency were the same. The only way to get one was to outbid the leagues with more money. Their talent was set the same as ours. In the end the experiment worked but our fixed, out of game, cap made it not work. They became 20-30% of a teams payroll for one FA. Too much, so we scrapped it. In a soft cap or no cap league it would be interesting. The other twist was no compensation for signing. It increased their value. It took a number of seasons to consistently get internationals every free agent class but once we did it was pretty cool.
