Can I do these things
Hi,
Have played BBW, PTP, and SOM in the past. I have a Mac and am looking for a Mac Baseball replay game. OOTP looks very nice indeed. Seems overwhelming though. Can I do these things?/ 1)Solo replay of two historic teams.... I am a Cleveland Indians fan and would love to replay the '95 Indians against great teams of the past such as '76 Reds, '70 Orioles, etc, etc. 2) Can I set up my own schedules. I run 21 game series/schedules. 3) Can I adjust the computer manager 4)does OOTP maintain series stats for review after the series?? 5) Is all of the above doable easily??? I really have no desire in on line play, GM'ing, etc. Just want to do solo replays on my MAC. Thx. Frank |
2) Can I set up my own schedules. I run 21 game series/schedules.Yes, but it can be tricky. There is an in-game schedule editor, but it's kind of clunky. You can also import schedules in XML format, but that isn't necessarily the easiest thing to set up - on the bright side, there may already be a schedule that is (or is close enough to) what you want. There is an entire sub-forum in the Mods forum for schedules. IIRC, importing historical teams also imports that team's managerial tendencies. I'm not sure if you can adjust them, however. If a "series" is the 3 or 4 game sets that make up a season, then no, those aren't tracked. But each season is, and you can create an almanac of each season (or have the game do it automatically) for historical persual. I believe it's all doable (the managers are the thing I'm unsure of), but it's not always easy. OOTP is a very deep program. |

2. Yes. Manual scheduling is possible. 3. Yes. It can be tedious, though. 4. No. I assume you're referring to a series played during the season. |

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
I'm playing w the demo now. Fun game. I enjoy it. Not sure how much is in the demo... it's OOTP # 13. Gonna try to find the '95 Indians in there somewhere. Frank |

Honestly, while you can certainly do a full-season replay with that '95 Indians team, creating a baseball world where you can have that team face other all-time great teams is a major undertaking.
You should be aware that this is not a replay sim. This is a career-style baseball sim that can be used to replay historical seasons individually or to replay multiple seasons, anywhere from 1901 to the present day. It can be set up for a single-season replay, but it's not a sim where you just set up an exhibition game or do short series. This game is designed to play full seasons, although you can certainly customize the length of those seasons if you'd like. And you could create a customized schedule and do a lot of work to create the kind of all-time greats competition that you're trying to achieve, but that gets into advanced levels of customization and editing. I really wouldn't recommend it. But I strongly encourage you to buy the game. It's not SOM, Diamond Mind, or APBA, but it's something that I believe is much better. You don't have to buy season disks, and you can run everything from historical leagues with real players and real transactions, to what-if historical leagues with a full fantasy draft or starting with real rosters, or to run current MLB games or even fully fictional leagues. For less than $50, you get every season, every player, and every manager in baseball history, plus the opportunity to do almost anything you can imagine, as long as you're mostly looking to play out or simulate full seasons, whether they're 20 games in length or 200. |

By the way, I want to follow up with something that I neglected to mention because I had forgotten about it.
The new version of OOTP will include a new feature that will help you do almost exactly what you want. You will be able to create a new league and choose different teams throughout baseball history. You won't have to do all the work that you used to do to import teams and set this up. However, if you're looking to play 21-game series or something like that, you might still need to do some tweaking. You could choose a 21-game schedule or maybe create an import a custom schedule that only includes the games you want to play. |
