GameChanger App...

I'm curious. This scoring app runs on IOS devices and is capable of writing a rudimentary story for a game. To subscribe to the service (which allows you to use it for one year) the cost is $40. I can't help but wonder if the "story" coding couldn't be purchased from Game Changer and added to OOTP. To be able to get a recap story on every game if I wanted would certainly be worth an extra $5-$10 a game more per year.

Here's a sample of a game recap I created entering one of my league game into my iPad....

Knights escapes Kansas City Packers behind Bill Gunter's 4 strikeouts, 4-0

An excellent effort by Bill Gunter carried Knights to a 4-0 win over Kansas City Packers on Wednesday.

Knights' Bill kept Kansas City Packers off the scoreboard for all nine innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on four hits while ringing up four.

Reginald White helped Knights take the lead for good in the seventh inning.

After Murray Corrigan tripled, Reginald came to the plate with two outs in the seventh and tripled, scoring Murray.

Reginald was hot from the plate for Knights. Reginald went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run.

Andrew Guy reached base two times. He scored one run and had one RBI. He tripled in the seventh inning.

Daryl Stafford took the loss for Kansas City Packers. He lasted just eight innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed four runs.

Not great but certainly passable.

Maybe for you that's worth increasing the game price. Not sure the market would agree.

I'm part of the market, and this part does not agree.

If it would raise the game price, no way. If they could somehow implement it without changing pricing, I'd be all for it.

It's just not head-and-shoulders above what we have right now. It's better, but not $5-$10 better.

Actually, there are a few projects out there that does generate game recaps, for example here: Intelligent Information Laboratory @ Northwestern University - Projects - Stats Monkey

We contacted those folks the past 2 years, but never got any reply... seems like they do not care about earning some $$. Stupid.

It's a shame no who has already accomplished this isn't interested in making a few bucks. I've seen the StatsMonkey stories and they are much better, but I always suspected they may not be interested because they are associated with some sort of university study.

I respect those that don't want to see a price increase - I was just thinking that $5 over the course of a year isn't a deal breaker - but I realize not everyone shares that opinion.

Maybe, instead of a narrative, we can have a ture "recap" of each game which would be simply searching for and assembling things we already know... score, player of the game and season stats, winning hit, winning/losing pitcher, that type of recap... just thinking out loud here.

That type of a quick list could provide the writers in the group an easy way to jot down their own quick story.

Ok, throwing out another idea - bear with me if your getting tired of them

In lieu of a game story (until Markus gets the time or resources to write such things, how about working with something we already have in the game?

The Game log is a pitch by pitch narrative of each and every game - perfect for documenting the details, but hard to read for a game summary.

What if we had a version of the Game Log that stripped out all the pitches, leaving only the play results - then further striped out any half innings that did not result in a score?

We would end up with a game recap that touched on all the scoring plays and would be a recap of the game when added to the wining and losing pitchers and the player of the game.

Here's a sample I put together of what I'm thinking of...

Top of the 1st over - 0 run(s), 0 hit(s), 0 error(s), 0 left on base; Chicago 0 - Grand Rapids 0
Bottom of the 1st over - 0 run(s), 1 hit(s), 0 error(s), 1 left on base; Chicago 0 - Grand Rapids 0
Top of the 2nd over - 0 run(s), 0 hit(s), 0 error(s), 0 left on base; Chicago 0 - Grand Rapids 0
Bottom of the 2nd over - 0 run(s), 0 hit(s), 0 error(s), 0 left on base; Chicago 0 - Grand Rapids 0
TOP OF THE 3RD
Pitching for Grand Rapids Wolves : RHP Dan Orr
Chris Haydon reaches on E4
Ricado Jiminex reaches on E6
Culley Duke Sac Bunt - OUT
Chris Hayden to 3rd
Ricardo Jimenez to 2nd
Stephen Zuniga 5-3 - OUT
Paul Stephan DOUBLE
Chris Hayden SCORES
Ricardo Jimenez SCORES
Jeffery Berry 3-1 - OUT
Top of the 3rd over - 2 run(s), 1 hit(s), 2 error(s), 1 left on base; Chicago 2 - Grand Rapids 0
BOTTOM OF THE 3RD
Pitching for Chicago Eagles : RHP Culley Duke
Manuel Rodriguez DOUBLE

Jimmy Diaz to 2nd
Jocob Parkinson K - OUT

Bottom of the 4th over - 0 run(s), 0 hit(s), 0 error(s), 0 left on base; Chicago 2 - Grand Rapids 3

Bottom of the 5th over - 0 run(s), 2 hit(s), 0 error(s), 1 left on base; Chicago 2 - Grand Rapids 3

Totally on board with that. Basically what I pitched already:

Nice suggestion, BigCity. I like it. And then in OOTP 17 you would be able to wrap these play-by-plays in extended nice wordy descriptions.

I remember Stratomatic Computer baseball having one. But they were painful to read.

Game story that costs more = cool, if it's readable but probably not worth it.

Scoring recap = should have already been in the game.
