Question about letting your manager set the lineup
I'm playing in GM mode with the Miami Marlins and thus let my manager set the lineups and depth chart with the overall roster. My question is...if a starter continuously struggles will the manager recognize this and start to give more playing time to the backup? Adeiny Hechavarria is hitting around .200 while his backup is hitting over .300 and their overall ratings aren't very far apart. Just curious if the AI is smart enough to start shifting playing time to a player who has been performing better...

I can't speak scientifically about this, but it appears the manager's smart enough to sit a struggling player now and then.
One way I handle this (also acting as GM only) is to put the struggling player on the DL or demote him to the minors for a while (as long as he has option years left). It forces the manager, ala Moneyball to use what's left, meaning, in this case, the guy you want on the field in the first place. Don't abuse this power though, as it sends a bad message, can cause a player to struggle, and can result in tensions during contract negotiations. You can set overall roster strategies from the strategy tab, but I've found that it isn't always successful. Better to look at hiring a new bench coach and ask him to set the lineups, than lose talent or your manager. |
