Rocky Mountain Baseball

Background
Welcome to my Colorado Rockies Dynasty! This will be my first ever attempt at a dynasty, but I have been playing OOTP for probably 3-4 versions now. Personally, I am a diehard Yankee fan (born in New York, raised in Connecticut), but for these long-term simulation games I always choose teams which have never before won a World Series. Colorado is a team that I have never played as in OOTP, but I'm excited to embark on this adventure. I will be updating in ten game intervals, with intermittent updates on prospects/trade/etc... as I feel it is necessary. Feel free to comment with anything you think I should do differently. Thanks for following along!

Settings
I will be acting as only the GM, with the computer handling all lineups and depth charts for both the Major League and Minor League levels. Additionally, I have the following settings:

Trade Difficulty: Very Hard
Trading Preference: Neutral
AI Trading Frequency: Low
Overall rating based on AI evaluation, not pure ratings and overall rating based on all players, not positions are both checked
Injuries: High (Realistic Modern Day)
Aging Speed: Toned down to .800 for both pitchers/hitters
Development Speed: Slightly increased to 1.05 for both pitchers/hitters
Player Evaluation Settings: 0/46/34/20

All settings, especially player evaluation settings, are subject to change. Additionally, any further recommendations for settings that present a good challenge are welcomed!

Expectations from Roster
Offensively, this Rockies team is led by Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez and reigning NL Hitting Champion Michael Cuddyer. Tulowitzki, Cuddyer and Gonzalez were all OPS juggernauts last year, compiling OPS numbers of .931, .919 and .958 respectively. These three will likely make up the meat of the order, and the possibility of a winning season for the Rockies is directly correlated to the success of the above three. Additionally, look for youngsters Nolan Arenado and Corey Dickerson to make a significant contribution as both embark on their second Major League campaign. Arenado hit .267 last year with an OPS of .706 in 133 games. Dickerson on the other hand only played in 69 games last season, registering an OPS of .775 and a wOBA of .330.

While hitting may be a strength for the Rockies, pitching, specifically the rotation, may be a problem area. The rotation will be anchored by Jorge De La Rosa and Jhoulys Chacin, both of whom posted solid numbers last year. Chacin will be on the DL for the first week or two of the season. After these two, the Rockies will look for a strong third campaign from young Tyler Chatwood who followed up a weak 2012 campaign with a strong 2013 campaign. In order to be a playoff team, Chatwood will need to be a major contributor. The rotation is filled out by Jordan Lyles and Brett Anderson, both of whom are hoping to bounce back from dismal 2013 seasons. The bullpen however, is much stronger than the rotation. It will be led by returning arms Rex Brothers and Adam Ottavino, as well as the calming veteran influence of LaTroy Hawkins.

Overall, owner expectations for this team is to post a winning record, while my own expectations is for this team to win around 85 games.

Prospect Update
The Colorado Rockies enter the 2014 season with the 24th ranked Minor League system. Only two prospects, pitchers Eddie Butler (32) and Jonathan Gray (89) find themselves in the top 100 prospects in Major League Baseball. 23 year old Butler posted a 2.07 ERA with 118 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.06 in 122 innings last year splitting time between A and AA-ball. The 22 year old Gray pitched 37.1 innings last year in between rookie and A-ball, finishing with a 1.93 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP and 51 strikeouts to only 8 walks.

The Rockies however also have a solid crop of position player prospects, led by 19 year old outfielder David Dahl. Dahl only played in 10 games last season, but in his 2 year career in the minors he has hit .366 with a 1.01 OPS. Dahl is joined by Ryan Casteel and Rosell Herrera as the teams top position player prospects. Casteel hit .270 last year in 108 games at the A-ball level, also driving in 76 runs and hitting 22 home runs. Herrera tore up A-ball last year, hitting .343, with a .933 ops, and a .399 wOBA in 126 games.

Overall, the system is a lot better than it is given credit for. All of the above five prospects can eventually blossom into first-team players with hard work and dedication. In addition to above, infielders Trevor Story, Ryan McMahon and Christhian Adames will be interesting prospects to follow as the season progresses.

First attempt at an update. I'm thinking of adding a written portion that is sort of a recap of how the team played and the strengths/weaknesses. Also thinking of adding a bi-update prospect/player spotlight. Let me know what you guys think!

Update 4, 2014 Season
Series Against: vs New York Mets, vs Texas Rangers, at Cincinnati Reds

May 1, 2014
Team R - H - E
New York Mets 4 - 9 - 0
Colorado Rockies 8 - 14 - 0
W: J. Nicasio (1-1); L: R. Montero (0-4)
Corey Dickerson 3-5 3 RBI (15)

Juan Nicasio overcame a shaky start to settle down and produce 7 solid innings. Offensively, the Rockies were led by Michael Cuddyer and Corey Dickerson who each chipped in 3 RBIs a piece.

May 2, 2014
Team R - H - E
New York Mets 3 - 12 - 1
Colorado Rockies 6 - 10 -
W: J. De La Rosa (3-2); L: D. Gee (0-3); S: M. Belisle (8)
Jorge De La Rosa 5.1 IP 7 H 1 ER 2 BB 5 K

Jorge De La Rosa continues his strong start to the 2014 season, totaling his 3rd win of the campaign and lowering his ERA to 1.85 through 43.2 innings pitched. 6 different Rockies drove in runs on the day, with D.J. LeMahieu, Troy Tulowitzki, and Corey Dickerson all hitting solo home runs.

May 3, 2014
Team R - H - E
New York Mets 14 - 16 - 0
Colorado Rockies 7 - 10 - 2
W: J. Valverde(1-0); L: B. Anderson (2-2)
Cesar Puello 4-4 2 HR (3) 2 RBI (4) 2 BB

A horror show on the mound, as the Rockies staff surrendered 10 runs through the first three innings. Brett Anderson, who had been surprisingly good up until this start, gave up 5 runs in only one third of an inning. The bright spot from this game was Troy Tulowitzki, who went 4-4 with a home run and 3 runs batted in.

May 4, 2014
Team R - H - E
New York Mets 4 - 12 - 2
Colorado Rockies 5 - 12 - 1
W: J. Lyles (2-2); L: O. Dotel (4-2)
D.J. LeMahieu 2-4 3 RS 1 BB 2 SB (5)

A walk-off sacrifice fly from Troy Tulowitzki gave the Rockies a close win and a series win against the New York Mets. Tyler Chatwood continues to allow multiple opponents on base each start, giving up 9 hits over 6.2 innings. On the year Chatwoods WHIP sits at an undesirable 1.67.

May 5, 2014
Team R - H - E
Texas Rangers 6 - 15 - 2
Colorado Rockies 2 - 6 - 2
W: R. Ross (4-1); L: J. Chacin (2-2)
Corey Dickerson 3-4 2 HR (5) 2 RBI (19)

Rough day at the office for Jhoulys Chacin who gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in his 7 innings of work. Overall an underwhelming game. The loan bright spot was Corey Dickerson who went yard twice on the day.

W: J. Nicasio (2-1); L: M. Perez (2-3); S: M. Belisle (9)
Juan Nicasio 6 IP 7 H 2 ER 1 BB 6 K

Strong performance from Juan Nicasio and the pitching staff as a whole. After a lengthy rain delay the bullpen came in and shut the door on the Rangers over 3 solid innings.

May 7, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 2 - 6 - 1
Texas Rangers 1 - 7 - 2
W: J. De La Rosa (4-2); L: M. Harrison (0-6)
Matt Harrison 8 IP 6 H 1 ER 2 BB 4 K

A great pitchers duel between Jorge De La Rosa and Matt Harrison. Slightly better defense and more timely hitting was enough to give the Rockies the edge, with Nolan Arenado driving in the winning run in the 6th. De La Rosa's ERA on the season now stands at 1.78, good for fourth in the National League.

May 8, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 2 - 7 - 0
Texas Rangers 17 - 19 - 0
W: C. Lewis (3-2); L: J. Lyles (2-3)
Alex Rios 4-4 2B 2 HR (6) 7 RBI (24)

Another horror show on the mound, an event which is becoming a weekly occurrence. Jordan Lyles was poor in his first start off the DL and Franklin Morales was just as poor in relief. Overall, this is a game to forget.

May 9, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 3 - 7 - 0
Cincinnati Reds 4 - 8 - 0
W: H. Bailey (4-3); L: T. Chatwood (1-2); S: S. Marshall (7)
Homer Bailey 7 IP 7 H 3 ER 2 BB 10 K

Tyler Chatwood had a pretty strong performance by his standards. Zack Cozart hit a big 6th inning home run which gave the Reds the lead and they didn't look back.

May 10, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 4 - 11 - 2
Cincinnati Reds 5 - 8 - 0
W: S. Marshall (1-0); L: M. Belisle (0-3)
Troy Tulowitzki 3-4 2B 2 HR (10) 3 RBI (31)

Cincinnati comes up with the clutch hits for the second straight game as the Rockies drop their 3rd straight. Troy Tulowitzki hit two game tying home runs, but the Reds regained the lead on both occasions. On the season Tulo is hitting .354 with a .409 OBP and a .440 wOBA.

May 11, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 3 - 6 - 1
Cincinnati Reds 6 - 12 - 0
W: A. Simon (1-3); L: J. Nicasio (2-2); S: J. Hoover (3)
Joey Votto 3-4 HR (7) 3 RBI (22)

A definite series to forget. Yet another game where Cincinnati gets every clutch 2-out hit and our pitchers can't get the big out. Going forward, a move may need to be made in order to compete for a playoff spot.

Update 5, 2014 Season
Series Against: at Kansas City Royals, vs San Diego Padres, vs San Francisco Giants, at Atlanta Braves

May 13, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 0 - 7 - 0
Kansas City Royals 6 - 12 - 0
W: B. Chen (4-2); L: J. De La Rosa (4-3)
Bruce Chen 8 IP 6 H 0 ER 2 BB 7 K

Another day and another road loss. This marks a five game losing streak now, all games having been played on the road. Hopefully they can break out of this slump in the next few games, otherwise I will need to start making some moves.

May 14, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 4 - 9 - 2
Kansas City Royals 3 - 9 - 0
W: J. Lyles (3-3); L: J. Shields (3-4); S: M. Belisle (11)
Jordan Lyles 8 IP 9 H 3 ER 1 BB 4 K

The streak finally ends on the back of a strong performance from Jordan Lyles. Matt Belisle remains automatic out of the bullpen as he notches yet another scoreless inning in relief, his ERA stands at 1.21 on the year.

May 16, 2014
Team R - H - E
San Diego Padres 6 - 11 - 0
Colorado Rockies 10 - 17 - 0
W: J. Jurrjens (1-0); L: I. Kennedy (2-4); S: W. Lopez (1)
Jair Jurrjens 3 IP 2 H 0 ER 0 BB 4 K

The bats came alive late for the Rockies, who scored all 10 of their runs in the last 3 innings of the game, led by a 7 run 6th. Jair Jurrjens was tremendous in relief as he shut the door on the Padres for 3 strong innings. Offensively, Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon each went yard and drove in 3 and 2 runs, respectively.

May 17, 2014
Team R - H - E
San Diego Padres 4 - 9 - 0
Colorado Rockies 3 - 8 - 0
W: D. Thayer (2-0); L: B. Logan (0-1); S: A. Torres (10)
Alex Torres 3 IP 3 H 0 ER 2 BB 3 K

A tough loss to swallow. Tyler Chatwood's night was cut short by a lengthy rain delay, and the bullpen did a solid job in relief until Boone Logan blew the game in the 7th. Then to make matters worse, the Rockies were unable to get a hit after they had men on 2nd and 3rd with no one out in the 9th; the last three hitters struck out in order.

May 18, 2014
Team R - H - E
Son Diego Padres 2 - 6 - 0
Colorado Rockies 3 - 10 - 0
W: B. Logan (1-1); L: A. Torres (3-2)
Juan Nicasio 7 IP 5 H 2 ER 1 BB 10 K

Juan Nicasio
has his strongest start of the year en rout to a 3-2 win over the Padres. D.J. LeMahieu came through with the late heroics with a walk-off home run, his 3rd home run of the season, in the 9th.

May 20, 2014
Team R - H - E
San Francisco Giants 4 - 9 - 0
Colorado Rockies 7 - 11 - 1
W: R. Brothers (1-0); L: M. Bumgarner (5-3); S: M. Belisle (12)
Troy Tulowitzki 2-4 HR (11) 2 RBI (37)

Troy Tulowitzki and Corey Dickerson both go yard in a 3-run 8th which propels Colorado over the Giants. The 2 8th innings home runs were only half of the 4 total that the Rockies had in the game.

May 21, 2014
Team R - H - E
San Francisco Giants 0 - 3 - 0
Colorado Rockies 2 - 8 - 0
W: J. Chacin (3-2); L: C. Gaudin (0-3); S: M. Belisle (13)
Jhoulys Chacin 8 IP 2 H 0 ER 4 BB 6 K

A brilliant gem from Jhoulys Chacin was not wasted thanks to a late 2-run home run from catcher Wilin Rosario. The win gives the Rockies their third straight and fifth in six games following their five game losing streak.

May 22, 2014
Team R - H - E
San Francisco Giants 8 - 14 - 0
Colorado Rockies 5 - 10 - 0
W: J. Affeldt (4-0); L: R. Brothers (1-1); S: S. Romo (13)
Marco Scutaro 5-5 3 2B 2 RBI (8)

A day-off for Matt Belisle turned out to be costly as Rex Brothers was poor in his spot. Brothers gave up 4 runs in the 9th inning, which was enough to aid the Giants to victory and help them avoid the sweep.

May 23, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 1 - 2 - 2
Atlanta Braves 2 - 11 - 0
W: A. Varvaro (3-1); L: A. Ottavino (3-2)
Alex Wood 7 IP 1 H 1 ER 1 BB 8 K

A less than stellar offensive performance for the Rockies today as they were only able to muster 2 hits in 14 innings of play. On the season the Rockies now drop to 0-6 in extra inning games.

May 24, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 7 - 14 - 0
Atlanta Braves 4 - 10 - 0
W: J. Nicasio (3-2); L: J. Teheran (2-5); S: M. Belisle (14)
Wilin Rosario 3-5 HR (7) 3 RBI (25)

A solid all around job for the Rockies today as they recover from a poor first game loss to the Braves. Wilin Rosario and Nolan Arenado lead the offense with 3 and 2 runs batted in respectively.

May 25, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 3 - 7 - 0
Atlanta Braves 0 - 3 - 0
W: J. Chacin (4-2); L: E. Santana (2-8); S: R. Brothers (1)
Jhoulys Chacin 6 IP 2 H 0 ER 3 BB 6 K

A terrific job by the pitching trio of Jhoulys Chacin, and Adam Ottavino and Rex Brothers. Brothers redeems himself after blowing a game against the Giants in his last save attempt. Troy Tulowitzki continues to lead the offense, hitting his 12th home run and driving in runs 42 and 43 on the day.

Update 6, 2014 Season
Series Against: at Philadelphia Phillies (31-18), at Cleveland Indians (29-26), vs Arizona Diamondbacks (23-36)

May 26, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 9 - 14 - 0
Philadelphia Phillies 3 - 8 - 1
W: J. De La Rosa (5-3); L: A. Burnett (5-4)
Jorge Da La Rosa 7 IP 6 H 2 ER 2 BB 6 K

Another good all-around victory against a hot Phillies squad. Jorge De La Rosa continues to perform extremely well as the staff ace, and Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson both chipped in home runs en rout to the victory.

May 27, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 8 - 11 - 1
Philadelphia Phillies 6 - 9 - 2
W: J. Lyles (4-3); L: C. Hamels (5-2); S: M. Belisle (15)
Troy Tulowitzki 2-5 HR (14) 2 RBI (46)

A rocky 9th inning from Wilton Lopez made this game a lot closer than it had to be. Lopez surrendered 4 runs before the calming influence of Matt Belisle entered the game and shut the door on the Phillies. Charlie Blackmon homers for the second straight game.

May 28, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 1 - 6 - 0
Philadelphia Phillies 2 - 8 - 0
W: K. Kendrick (4-5); L: T. Chatwood (1-3); S: J. Papelbon
Kyle Kendrick 8.1 IP 6 H 1 ER 0 BB 3 K

A great pitchers duel that we unfortunately had to lose. Kyle Kendrick was automatic nearly the entire game, but Tyler Chatwood went stride for stride with him the entire way. All-in-all I am happy with taking two in Philadelphia.

May 30, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 1 - 4 - 0
Cleveland Indians 6 - 9 - 1
W: V. Pestano (2-1); L: J. Nicasio (3-3); S: C. Allen (4)
Ryan Raburn 3-4 HR (13) 3 RBI (44)

The second straight game where our offense was sub-par. Juan Nicasio was pitching pretty well until he broke down in the 8th, giving up 4 runs in that inning. Nicasio's ERA inflates to 5.01 on the season.

May 31, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 12 - 14 - 0
Cleveland Indians 0 - 4 - 0
W: J. Chacin (5-2); L: C. Kluber (2-5)
D.J. LeMahieu 3-4 2 2B 4 RBI (14)

Jhoulys Chacin pitched extremely well, but it was the Rockies bats which were the story of this game. Led by D.J. LeMahieu, the Rockies woke up after being caught asleep the prior two games. On a side note, LeMahieu has been performing well this year, and I am starting to consider moving him in order to bolster my bullpen, which is ranked 14th in the National League.

June 1, 2014
Team R - H - E
Colorado Rockies 0 - 4 - 0
Cleveland Indians 7 - 11 - 0
W: Z. McAllister (3-2); L: J. De La Rosa (5-4)
Zach McAlister 9 IP 4 H 0 ER 2 BB 4 K

Another poor all-around performance today. Jorge De La Rosa had one of his less memorable starts of the year, and the offense was held to less than one run for the third time in the last four games. Time to travel back home to start a three game set with the Diamondbacks.

June 3, 2014
Team R - H - E
Arizona Diamondbacks 3 - 5 - 3
Colorado Rockies 9 - 9 - 2
W: T. Chatwood (2-3); L: R. Delgado (3-5)
Wilin Rosario 3-4 2B HR (9) RBI (28)

This offense continues to be incredibly streaky, now having scored 9 runs in two of the last three games (to go with their one run or less in four of the last six...). Wilin Rosario was fantastic today, and Tyler Chatwood continues to piece together productive starts.

June 4, 2014
Team R - H - E
Arizona Diamondbacks 2 - 8 - 0
Colorado Rockies 6 - 10 - 1
W: J. Lyles (5-3); L: T. Cahill (3-7)
Jordan Lyles 8 IP 7 H 2 ER 0 BB 6 K

5 runs through the first two innings was enough to propel the Rockies past the Diamondbacks. Jordan Lyles had a solid day on the mound, earning his 5th win of huge 2014 campaign.

June 5, 2014
Team R - H - E
Arizona Diamondbacks 5 - 9 - 1
Colorado Rockies 9 - 12 - 0
W: W. Lopez (3-2); L: W. Miley (2-7)
Nolan Arenado 2-4 HR (5) RBI (35)

A 7-run 7th was enough to catapult the Rockies to victory and a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The offensive attack was well-balanced, with 5 different Rockies driving in runs.

I really like the format you use for your updates. There could also be more info, but for what you have I find it to be simple, strait forward and to the point while still delivering news from your team and around the league.

Keep up the good work on this.

Colorado Rockies 2014 Draft Results - Top 5 Picks

Round 1, Pick 8: Chris Coleman OF, Bucknell University
Quick Facts: 21 years old, 6'2" 185 lbs, Bats: Switch, Throws: Right
With our first round pick I decided to go with what I perceived to be the best talent available. The 21-year old Coleman performed extremely well in 56 games last season at Bucknell, hitting .323 with a .404 wOBA, and a .957 OPS, the second highest for all college players in the 2014 draft pool. Coleman also hit 14 home runs, drove in 55 runs and stole 37 bases, while only being thrown out 4 times. Coleman spent most of the time in center field for Bucknell, but he has the ability to play any position in the outfield, obtaining a good arm and great range.

Coleman has the potential to become a five-tool outfielder in the major leagues, and he has the work ethic to get himself there. Expectations are high, both the players and the teams.

Round 2, Pick 38: Greg Barker SP, McKinney North (High School)
Quick Facts: 17 years old, 6'4" 195 lbs, Bats: Right, Throws: Left

Barker is a guy who possesses an incredibly high ceiling. In 121.2 innings of work over his last season Barker sported a 12-0 record with a 0.59 ERA. Additionally, Barker had a WHIP of 0.72 and struck out 258 batters giving Barker, on average, 19.1 strikeouts per 9 innings of work. In his senior year, Barker started 15 games, with each start lasting an average of 8 innings. Despite his large frame, Barker is not a high-velocity thrower, and is instead a sinkerballer who will hit 91-93 mph on the gun. Barker's true weapon is his devastating slider, which will continue to be a problem for hitters as he develops his game.

Round 3, Pick 68: Mike Snow SS, Old Dominion
Quick Facts: 20 years old, 5'10" 165 lbs, Bats: Right, Throws: Right

Despite being listed as a shortstop, Snow is more of a utility player than anything else; Snow possesses the ability to play all defensive positions with the exception of catcher and first base. The young utility player also has some pop in his bat, in 61 games last season Snow hit .309 with a .894 OPS and a .385 wOBA. He also drove in 58 runs while hitting 15 home runs and stealing 33 bags. Snow is a player that all GM's love to have in their system, he has great tools and also possesses the flexibility to play anywhere on the field.

Round 4, Pick 98: Tony Keats SS, Holy Cross
Quick Facts: 22 years old, 6'0" 185 lbs, Bats: Switch, Throws: Right

Keats is a similar player to Mike Snow in that, despite being listed as a shortstop, he can play multiple positions. In all likelihood, Keats will end up as either a second baseman or a corner outfielder in the Rockies system. In 49 games last year, Keats hit .318, with 5 home runs, 42 runs batted in and 32 stolen bases. Keats also has a better stolen base percentage (94.1%) than both Snow (78.6%) and first-round pick Coleman (90.2%). Regardless, there is no lack of speed between the first three position players taken by the Rockies.

Round 5, Pick 128: Jeff Sheffield CF, Eastland Christian (High School)
Quick Facts: 17 years old, 6'3" 195 lbs, Bats: Right, Throws: Right

Sheffield is the second high school player taken in the first five picks by the Rockies. Sheffield has a large frame (6'3") and has very high offensive upside. In 26 games last year on his high school squad, Sheffield hit .492 with a 1.331 OPS and a .550 wOBA. Sheffield drove in 38 runs while also hitting 7 home runs. Despite having high upside on the offensive side of his game, Sheffield does not have overwhelming speed, and will also need to put in lots of hours into improving his defense. Fortunately for us, and him, Sheffield is a gym rat who could certainly be a valuable Rockie if he reaches his full potential.

Just a quick update on this report... From now on I think I'm going to move to monthly reports as opposed to every ten games. Not exactly sure what the content will be , but I will work on that as I go.

Rockies trade prospect Patterson in exchange for Maness

Colorado Rockies Receive - St. Louis Cardinals Receive
SP Seth Maness - 1B Jordan Patterson
1-1 0.94 ERA 28.2 IP 0.59 WHIP 24 K (ML) - .284 AVG .813 OPS 7 HR 50 RBI 15 SB (A)

This is a trade which has been in the works for a while. I've been interested in the 25-year old Seth Maness for over a month now; he possesses great control, walking only 3 batters in his 28.2 innings of work, and he is heavily underused by the Cardinals. Maness's WHIP was the stat which jumped out at me the most, his 0.59 WHIP is now far and away the lowest on the team, with the next lowest being Matt Belisle with a WHIP of 0.87. Although it appears Walt Weiss will start Maness off in the bullpen, ultimately, I would like to see him replace Jordan Lyles as the fifth starter in the rotation.

A couple of different names had floated around in the past in terms of who the Cardinals wanted for Maness. Before eventually settling on Jordan Patterson, names such as minor league C Tom Murphy Jr., minor league SS Christian Adames and second basemen D.J. LeMahieu came up in trade talks with the Cards. Eventually myself, and Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak came to the agreement that Patterson was appropriate return. The 22-year old Patterson has put up solid numbers in A-ball this year, hitting.270 with 7 home runs and 50 runs batted in. In addition to his offensive productivity, Patterson has also shown speed on the base paths, stealing 15 bases in 20 attempts.

National League All-Stars defeat American League; Matt Belisle, Troy Tulowitzki represent the NL

SS Troy Tulowitzki - CL Matt Belisle

Complete National League Lineups - Complete American League Lineups

Troy Tulowitzki and Matt Belisle represented us in this year's mid-summer classic. Tulowitzki, however, will not be able to play due to a sprained ankle which has kept him out of commission for most of July. On the year, Matt Belisle has been arguably the best closer in baseball. Through 38.1 innings, Belisle has 26 saves and an ERA of 1.66. Tulowitzki has been performing equally well on the year. Tulo is hitting .308, with a .930 OPS and a .392 wOBA; additionally Tulo has 19 home runs and 66 runs batted in.

The game itself was a pitchers duel with the National League etching out a narrow 3 to 2 victory. Tulowitzki did not play, but Belisle pitched the 4th inning, setting down the American League in order in an efficient 10 pitches. St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong was named the player of the game. Wong went 2 for 3 in the game, with a double and 2 runs batted in.

The win for the National League means that the NL Champion will be the home team in this years World Series.
