Hot and cold

If a player is hot or cold, are there adjustments made to his ratings just like there are when he's injured. For example, if he is hot is there are a "5 %" increase in his ratings?

No, the hot and cold icons are just indicators of performance.

Now, they may be hot or cold because of ratings changes, but the icons are only based on performance and are just for informational purposes.

Just like real life, "Joe Blow is scuffling over the last 6 games".

That's too bad. I thought it might be good to keep my bench guy on the starting lineup if he was on a hot streak.

You should. I do this often. Just don't count on it. I put a starter with the dreaded snowflake into a playoff game and he pitched a CG 5 hitter with 1 run allowed.

The point is that you don't know why a player is hot or cold, just that he is. It might be that he has reached a higher plateau of consciousness or it might just be dumb luck.

But if you are going to try to play baseball without believing there are forces beyond our knowledge that we can never understand completely, then you are not going to be playing baseball. Riding hot hands and giving cold players a rest are traditions in baseball. So is trying to repeat the conditions of a winning performance: Who knows why we won, but I was standing on the third step of the dugout, so maybe that's it and I will stand on the third step again and see if it works. If not, I must find another detail to focus on. Maybe it was the pen I used to fill out the lineup card.....

At the very least, the player who is hot has earned playing time with his good performance, regardless of the reason for it.
