when to promote prospects?

I've got a stud 19 yr old SS (#1 pick overall last season). He rocketed through my system last year all the way to AA. A month into this season he was recommended up to AAA. After a week at AAA he was recommended up to the Majors. Should I promote him? I'm in year 2 as an expansion team so I'm not too concerned about win and losses. I just want to do what is best for his development. His contact is currently a 12 on a 20 point scale with a potential of 18. Power is 6 with a potential of 15. Thoughts? Will it hurt his potential if I call him up now? He hit over .300 through his rise in the minors with ok power and good power to the gaps.

I'd give him the rest of the season at AAA to give him another year of ratings growth. No reason to start his active service clock until he is closer to a finished product, especially if you aren't competing for the playoffs yet.

I have a rule of not promoting to more than 2 levels a season. Only on rare occasion will I move a prospect to a 3rd level. I would leave him in AAA until you need him at your ML team or unless he becomes unhappy in the minors.

Can you post a copy of his player page? Like to see his numbers.

If he's ready for the bigs, I'd call him up and see if he really is ready. If not, send him back down. It starts his clock early, but my thought's on that have always been - if he turns into a good player, I'm going to wind up paying him big $$$ anyway. If I have to do it a year sooner, meh, so what. You're just building a franchise, I can't imagine you're over burdened with long term high value contracts, so if you wind up signing him a year sooner, you should have the money. Right about the time you're ready to be competitive, or shortly after.

G/L whatever you decide.

Maybe update this thread in a couple months (game time) to let us know how he's doing.

I'll post his profile when I get home. I'm inclined to promote him just cause of the potential to have a building block in place. I play every game out so this is a long term commitment on my part The rest of the team is as you'd expect from a 2nd yr expansion franchise (2016 Chris Tillman, Brett Butler, Freddy Galvis, Andrew Toles-my only long term $ tied up is in Josh Johnson-hurt...again so there is lots of $ to spend).

Expansion teams are always fun.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I started one. I call them Las Vegas Sharks.
I apparently have a different method, I intentionally tank hardcore while keeping a sub $25m payroll until I'm ready to win.

The MLBPA hates me.
The Wilpons wish I'd do the same for them :x
