2014 AL Cy Young Vote
Fail. Cy Young is a yearly award not a September performance award. After he won all they would show was his "post all star break" stats... Why?
Felix broke the record for most long starts with 2 or less runs in a row. His era and whip were way lower. By almost a half a run and half a Hit/Walk? What are we doing here, writers? Ah well, he already has his contract. Now one of our league rivals will have to pay more for their guy when it comes up cause of his "hardware". But its just silly. Nothing against Kluber, he seems like a good guy. But did you even notice a team with almost no offense to speak of missing the playoffs by 1 game? |

Just because I'm feeling punchy...
Kluber WAR = 7.4, Felix WAR = 6.8 (bb reference) You can't use base ERA/WHIP or straght runs allowed / game comparison because of the ballpark difference. The Indians were eliminated like 3 days before the M's. The Indians only scored 35 more runs than the M's, their offense sucked too. I don't see where it is an epic fail. They were pretty even. I could see it either way. The only reason I am a little surprised is because Kluber doesn't really have the name recognition value as King Felix. Kluber racked up some serious K's too...still a glory stat.

Yes but why should K's be the tell-all stat? If you compare the two with all the rest of the stats, you'll see Felix easily wins.
But congrats to Kluber. Was going to be close either way. |

Felix does not easily win anything. By the same token, Kluber does not easily win either. It was a close call for either player. They were both very good.
IMO, you have look at the uber geek details to appreciate Kluber. There are a couple reasons Kluber has a higher WAR: 1) ballpark factors (Safeco is a pitchers park) 2) the Indians had a wretched defense; bb ref estimates they allowed like 0.4 runs more per game on average. Kluber was fighting uphill against every batter. Seattle was almost exactly average. Again, I don't expect everybody agree. That's fine. But please, no more "Felix in a landslide" comments. Nobody should have won easily. It was definitely splitting hairs either way. |
