Multithreading

I am looking to build a new desktop computer and was wondering if ootp16 would benefit from the i7 4790k over an i5 4690k.

Thanks

Good article explaining the differences between i5 & i7 cores.

Technically, yes, but not a whole lot. OOTP is not really CPU-intensive. RAM and HD speed make a much bigger difference.

OOTP might not be overly computer intensive, but I definitely notice a difference between my old i5 and my new i7

For OOTP at the moment, faster processor is more valuable than more cores. In the next couple years we'll try to put more threading changes in, but the single core top speed will still in all likelihood be the most important point for processor.

Can appreciate why it's requested but this really is a big request.

It matters more for some people than others. My home computer is an older i7, quad core, but low clock speed. Once 16 is out the door, I think I'll start looking where we can thread certain pieces. It won't completely change over overnight, but likely will come in bit and pieces the next few years.

I was under the impression threading was more of an OS-end thing, like the programmer does the equivalent of, "Hey, program, be threadable" and the OS looks and says, "oh, they want me to thread this" and does it.

Shows what I know, I guess.

Yeah, there are some serious potential speed-bumping issues with, for instance, being able to thread individual games where I could see it being amaaaazing.
