Question about Steam

So I'm not much of a gamer but I've been reading about OOTP16 and I definitely plan on ordering. My question is regarding the pre-order and getting a Steam key. Is Steam required to play the game or is that just for playing online with others? I know that this is probably a dumb question but I figured that this would be the best place to come to find out. Thanks.

Steam is not required to play the game unless you buy the game from steam. If you buy from OOTP you will not be required to use steam.

If you pre-order from OOTP you will receive a key to use with Steam but you will not be required to use it. You will receive an activation key from esellerate for the download from OOTP as well.
