How long do you wait to call up your prosepects to avoid Super Two status?

Was just wondering. I usually wait until near the end of June/beginning of July.

Generally you want your player to have under 2 years, 100 days of service time if you want him to avoid super two. By July 1st they usually have around 88 days, which means they can only earn 84 days of service for the rest of the season season. So June is usually too early, but July 1st or even July 15th is usually the safest if you want to avoid super 2.

I don't. If they can crack the team asap so be it, and if I need an injury replacement and he is the best available, arby be damned

I like to to give 'em the best chance at amassing awesome career numbers, so I call them up as soon as I think they can play. It's criminal to hinder careers for financial considerations....

I hate what the Cubs did with Kris Bryant. I undertand it from a business perspective but it's a terrible setup. If you're good enough to play you should be playing.

Cubs aren't going to wait until Super two cutoff though. They just want the extra year of team control. If I'm a Cubs fan I want Kris Bryant in AAA for a couple weeks to start the season. 1 Full Season>2 weeks

I'd guess that if Bryant's agent wasn't Boras, he'd have started the season in the big leagues.

3 months of a rookie season isn't going to make much of a difference to career numbers in my opinion.

And waiting 2 weeks to get the extra year of team control definitely isn't going to alter a players career numbers significantly at all.

Don't you feel like you owe it to your fans (the people that give you the money needed to operate a major league organization) to put the most competitive team out there every year? Giving away that extra year of team control seems criminal to your fans.

Sometimes I wonder that not just with baseball but with players in all leagues. Seems like sometimes teams do little things with players just because Boras is their agent.

They would have kept him down no matter who his agent is.

It's not a money thing it's a "keeping Kris Bryant on the Cubs for another year" thing.

But it's almost garaunteed that a Boras player won't sign an extension, so in this case I think the agent definitely had an impact on the decision.

They would always take the guaranteed extra year. Why roll the dice on if he will sign an extension or not if you can keep him in the minors for 2 weeks and guarantee that extra year? They wouldn't.
