Thrown in to the deep end!

I just finished my first season as GM of the Cardinals. I did not have a lot to do after I made one preseason trade. So I went to the scores screen and simmed a day at a time and looked at my box scores. Occasionally I had to move guys to and from the DL list, including once when I had three starting position players all on the DL.

I watched the Cardinals amass 100 wins and was ready to slowly go through all the offseason tasks that I need to learn about and handle.

And then I notice it. One extra wrinkle that I had not counted on. The League is expanding by 2 teams and now I apparently have to decide who to protect.

The off season may take me longer than the actual season did.

The off season immersion in OOTP is as much fun as the actual season.

I have no doubt of that but it is also probably one of the more intimidating aspects for us newbie GMs.

We all have that hidden GM within us, use the Force, feel the cash flow through you, improve your roster for it gets old!

I think my options are somewhat limited as I used up most of my budget room in the trade of Borjous for Lester and the extension of Jason Heyward.

I did cut Jaime Garcia lose since there was a team option at the end of 2015. I could not show him the door fast enough to get that money freed up. I can't pay a 1 star pitcher 9,000,000 to be a reliever.

I may look to trade John Jay as Randal Grichuk has become a good hitter and Stephen Piscotty is ready for a role on the 25 man roster.

Did you use the quickstart?

Expansion settings must have been left on, but that is an awesome way to experience that part of being a GM/Manager - who to protect and who to let go.
