My Experience...

I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to OOTP. I just purchased OOTP16 yesterday, and played OOTP13 sparingly a few years back.

I'm currently on my first game playing as the manager and GM for the Twins. Here is how its going...

On the 4th game of the year, Mike Trout's career ended. Post-Concussion Syndrome. I was disgusted with this, even though he isn't on my team, so I changed his injury to non-career ending. What are the chances?

I've made a few moves myself, mainly looking to rid myself of nasty contracts. I enjoy taking a bottom feeder and building them through trades and homegrown players.

Currently have acquired notable players such as Kris Bryant, Nomar Mazara, Alex Gordon, and Edwin Encarnacion. The later two only because of the short term contracts they were on. I've rid myself of bad contracts like Ervin Santana, Phil Hughes, and Kurt Suzuki.

The date is June 1st, and somehow I'm 23-26. I say somehow, because my starting pitching is amazingly awful.

Rotation:
Mike Pelfrey: 3-0, 3.12 ERA
R. Nolasco: 1-3, 5.79 ERA
T. Milone: 4-4, 6.14 ERA
K. Gibson: 2-4, 6.48 ERA
B. Hand: 3-4, 6.28 ERA
-----------------
SP ERA: 6.41
BP ERA: 4.87

Bright Spots:
- I called up top prospect Byron Buxton last week after he was hitting .290 in AAA through 45 games. He is hitting .270 with 4 RBI's
- Josmil Pinto and Danny Santana are both full time starters hitting over .300

More to come..

If you don't mind some advice, I really think that you need to make pitching your team priority now.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

pitching and defense is priority but hitting with good defensive players is a great bonus. Cant have good pitching without good defense and good defense with good hitting thus creates a winner

Yeah, I definitely do.

Not worried much about this year, record wise, so MLB performance I don't care about.

My farm includes J.O. Berrios, Alex Meyer, and Kohl Stewart who I think can be MLB starters. Also just drafted Brady Aiken, and 2 other SP's with my first 3 picks in the draft.

Very true.

Altoughi can't pin the defense on the awful pitching. Joe Mauer, Alex Gordon, Byron Buxton are all elite defenders. Danny Santana and Brian Dozier are good. While the rest are average.

when I first got into this game back in 2001 I simply traded away players I didn't like and kept improving for 3 seasons then you will see a winner crop up but I have my own methods (no cheating) Helps to think logical about various positions

I agree. Just keep your eyes and ears open and look for opportunities in the farm club, free agency, waivers and possible trades. You don't have to do it all in the same year.

I'd also look at the other teams' AAA clubs. Sometimes there's a decent pitcher or a roster fill in available that you can snag for cheap.

Lou's right. Just by keeping your eyes open you can usually improve your pitching at low cost.

IF this is your first season and if you have players you don't like start trading them away and if you have to give up minor leaguers do it. Upgrade right away as quickly as possible then you will soon be able to replenish your minor league system within a couple seasons so don't be afraid to trade to improve your situation that you find you need to fill

So...ready to upgrade that pitching staff now?
