Potential/ratings scale
I tried searching this, but can't find an exact answer. I'm very confused about how to judge prospects, and how the potential scale works. Every player seems to be on a scale of 20-80. I noticed it greatly during the draft. Players with a potential of 80 were sitting around for the entire draft, while players with a potential of 20 (the lowest rating) were being snatched up in the first round. How am I supposed to know who's actually a top prospect?
I noticed similar things with my team's top prospect list as well, as the top 4 all have a potential of 40 or less. I just traded for a guy with a potential of 76, and he appears nowhere on my player development screen. This is my first year with OOTP, after several years with Baseball Mogul. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

I would think that what you're seeing is the effects of different teams having different scouting takes on players. Just because a guy shows as a high potential to your scout, he may not look that good to the ai.
But yeah, overall higher is better. But with scouting on there can be a considerable fog of war that makes it very hard to tell just what players are actually rated higher. |

I get that everyone views prospects different, it's just odd that my own scouts have my own top prospects as guys with no potential. I'll just keep aiming for guys as high as possible.
