Are historical schedules accurate?

I'm playing the Seattle Pilots in 1969 in manager only mode and am noticing a ton of double headers and very few breaks for my team which is tearing up my pitching staff, especially since my GM only gives me ten pitchers.

I enjoy the challenge but am wondering, am I playing the actual schedule for the the Pilots that season or are the historical schedules randomly generated each season? I'm hoping the former.

There are historically accurate schedules for each season. There is one set up as the games were originally scheduled and one set up as the games were actually played.

Check under your optional settings to make sure the correct one loaded (of course, you cannot see this once the season has started). If you are playing with actual lineups and transactions, then the as-played schedule needs to be loaded, but should have loaded automatically.

You can look up the Seattle Pilots on Baseball-Reference.com and check out their actual results and see if it matches the schedule you are playing.

P.S. With the settings for 1969, 10 pitchers should be more than enough.

^^^ What Questdog said. With a couple of provisos:

(1) The historical 'as scheduled' schedule files won't have the actual game start times before the 2000s or so as that data either wasn't available or not incorporated into the files.

(2) The historical 'as played' schedule files have had the tie games and tie-breaking playoff games removed.

(3) The historical 'as played' schedule files don't have the actual game start times, for the same reasons as stated in (1).

One of the research projects I want to do will involve getting the actual historical start times for major league games as they were played. But completion of that lies many years down the road.

Unless you're the 1969 Pilots.
