Help setting up a hybrid league

So I can't get away from one of my ootp addictions, and that is to always want to compare my created fictional teams to real life teams. However, I have never been able to figure out just how to do that with a setup that suits me.

So here is what I came up.......please chime in to let me know what type of problems I might encounter:

- 2 Separate Leagues (National and American) under one association
- Financials on, trades on (for part time)
- Have an "importing period" in which I bring in x amount of historical teams from that year to compete in their respective leagues. During the season, trading is turned off (to keep the historical rosters in check).
-Directly after the postseason.....I extract the historical teams, and then turn trading back on.......conduct free agency.....and have the amateur draft.
-Then the next year......historical importing will begin right before the season begins- trades off, and repeat the cycle.

Is this doable....or will I run into major snags?
