Will a team eventually retire a number of a player if you retire him manually?

I wasn't sure because I haven't seen it, but I was wondering if there was a definitive answer on this one way or another.

Anyone?

Have to admit I am curious as to what the criteria does AI have to retire a number. I would have retired another number but AI never did it.

Same as Game I have never seen the AI retire a player there was done player that played 17 seasons with Atlanta then 2 with Cuba and retired. He has 7 GG awards and over 3000 hits with Atlanta and game did not retire his #

I've seen the game retire a lot of numbers, but I've only seen it when the player retires on his own and wasn't sure if it would do it automatically if I force retired a guy. It's not a big deal, I can (and do) retire the numbers myself most of the time even when it's not my team, if I see a guy had a productive career, etc., with a team.

I'm fine with the game not doing it en masse, because I think otherwise teams would eventually be doing it too much, so I like that it's kind of random since in real life some teams are pretty hard core about almost never doing it.

My small sample size over the past few months indicates that if a guy plays at least 10 years for a particular team, wins awards/HOF or has some other significant impact, they'll retire his number. But that's not a hard and fast rule, I've seen 10+ year guys not have their number retired.

I would like to see OOTP 17 have MLB retired #'s . It is too time consuming to do a full bio on real players who have had their # retired. i need to get Deja Bru to write bio's for my EBL players, I suck at it.

Might be a dumb question but does the AI actually not allow those numbers to be worn?
