Promoting Youngsters
Do you wait for the little green arrows for your recently drafted rookies before promoting them out of R-Ball, or do you just go by stats? Do you skip Short A or let them play some there too?

I like my numbers. I do not care for Rookie ball too much, too small of a sample size. I start to care when my players have more time in the high minors do decide whether or not they should be in AAA or the bigs. If I have a big time 4 star or above, I shortlist and watch him closer then I would other players. Maybe if he is good in the low minors, I might jump him to AA or AAA.

Does the game still predicate development to some degree on the stats a player has generated? I've always used numbers in the past for this reason. I don't want to break prospects merely because he had a random slump for a month.
But I could be playing old tapes. |

Promoting Youngsters
Both. I also have age limits on my minors so I move them to the appropriate level.
I use suggestions, stats and ratings. No need to not use one tool over the other. Last edited by SirMichaelJordan; 09-08-2015 at 01:14 PM. |

Plus, there's no magic formula for when to promote a prospect. The arrow may say he's ready but the stats may say otherwise. Or, the stats say "promote" but the arrow or lack thereof says "no". I also move guys to the appropriate level because of age limits. Some guys have no arrow but I promote them anyway and they do fine at the next level. There's guys with green "promote" arrows that get promoted right out of the organization because they have no futures as major leaguers and I have to make room for a guy coming up. You have to factor every variable. It's never just one thing. You'll have your hits, you'll have your misses. Some guys flame out, others take a while and blossom. It's never one thing. That's what makes OOTP so good.

I mainly use stats as a determiner, but also check to make sure I don't have two good prospects in the same position on the same team.

The arrow will draw my attention to the player, but I won't move him if the stats don't justify it. I find it a bit rarer that the AI will not "arrow" a player even if his stats are promising, but it still happens.
