Retired Player as Coaches??

I was thinking of making Edgar Martinez my hitting coach and wondered if I could. He is on the Retired Players list and I looked for a way in the editor to turn him into a coach and didnt see anything. Is there a way to do so?? Did I miss something??

Under commissioner mode, if you right click on the player, near the bottom of the popup window is the option to turn into coach.
