Ruben Amaro Jr. Fired!

Finally, the move that should have been made years ago, occured today. Amaro made a lot of bad deals, but is finally gone! You can post your hatred for him here, Philly fans!

Why now? They waited this long, why do it w/less than a month to go in the year? Its not like they are going to get a jump on next season.

I agree, they should have waited, but at least he's gone.

Very strange timing given everyone and their cat knew the Phillies would be awful this year.

But I can't really fault the move as it really should have been made a year or two ago.

Newspaper says, "He guided the Phillies to the 2009 NL pennant, three division titles and the most wins in franchise history (102) in 2011."

Which started me down the path of familiar thinking when I read stories like this about professional team managers and team managers being fired, like "short term memories, what have you done lately, need a scapegoat."

But then I realized two things:
  1. I'm not a Phillies fan. This guy has been making dumb moves, yes? Anybody care to list a few?
  2. A general manager is different from a field manager in this regard. It could be said that a new GM can coast quite a while on the accomplishments of the previous GM. Pat Gillick was a good GM, correct? Plus, he had the good sense to retire after winning a World Series!

Exactly the so called teams he led weren't his or even Gillicks to an extent. Our core of Rollins Hamels Howard Myers Victorino, and Utley were acquired by Ed Wade.
