Playoff Roster Primer
I've been meaning to do a playoff roster primer for some time but I've missed the playoffs 4 seasons in a row.
![]() In OOTP as of Aug 31 each year every player on the 25-man roster plus those on the DL are eligible. However players on the 60-day DL may not be eligible since they are not on the 40-man roster. This may not reflect exact MLB rules as of right now but c'est la vie. There are a few things the human player can do to help in advance. As you get into July avoid putting players on the 60-day DL if possible. See reason above. After roster expansion move players on the DL back to the active roster and let them sit there through September and the end of the regular season. At the end of the regular season make decisions on injured player. Obviously those not coming back soon go back on the DL. This generates an option (see arrow 2) to add a player from the active 40-man roster to the playoff eligible roster for each player put on the DL. How you do this is confusing so I explain it below. Players that only have a few days left injured can either be carried on the 25-man playoff roster or put in limbo with the "playoff eligibles". However if you have none or only a few injured players you may not have enough "playoff eligibles" to do this. Again that's life. ![]() See the screenshot below and follow the comments and arrows 1 through 4. I think it is clear but if not ask questions. Click on the screenshot to get a better view. Note that arrow 1, moving players off temporarily is necessary if you wish to add non-eligible players from the 40-man. OOTP usually fills the playoff roster. You have to move players to the right first then from the 40- man. My arrow 3 says eligible but it should say non-eligible players. Hope this helps.
