From #2 in Cy Young Voting to dud in half a season
My Goldmine starting pitcher is breaking my heart.
I knew he would be losing something as he aged, but he had been so solid for so long that I am just shocked at how quickly he has declined. 4.5 stars to 1 star from late middle of last season to start of this season! Now I have a $26M/year lousy reliever on my staff! I'm guessing no more Cy Young contention... |

Thats what you get for giving him that contract into his 30s. Did you expect him to perform well for the entirety of the contract?

He actually refused to renew the last year of his long-term contract and went free agent on me. First time I've had a team that is borderline dynasty (8 division pennants in 8 years and 3 trips to WS with one win there). Good minor leaguers coming up and team is situated well. Got sentimental with this one. Mistake.

Hey we all make mistakes even if we are carefull. I signed an Intl FA from Cuba. His ratings were 65 contact 75 power 65 eye 65 avoid ks. HE also was a 70 in LF and RF and had all 75 or 80 for fielding attributes. Players with that high of ratings are rare(Harper and Trout like) so I salivated. He was already 30 which made me feel nervous. I tried signing him to a 4 or 5 year deal hoping he would be like Cabrera or Beltre and be at least a good DH til he was 35. But the damn Yankees offered him a 6 year deal and because I felt like he could do some magical things I countered with a 27mill a year for 6 years. His first year he hit 53 HR 120 RBI .280 avg., then 43 HR the next and 41 after that. Then he got hurt once for 5 weeks and only hit 35 Hr. At age 34 he did what your pitcher did(not as bad but close) with a drop from 5 stars to 2. I was super lucky though because in a trade a team actually asked for him for a relief pitching prospect. So i was able to get rid of him. He did help get me 3 Championship rings in a row though!!!!
