PINQ: Andreas... Windows 10 Warning... Can't Activate the Game

Warning: If you don't like Windows 10... get it uninstalled from your computer... it certainly has caused me much time and expense and possible loss of my Islandian Pro Alliance dynasty which has been going for almost 13 years now.

To make a long story short... Windows 10 took over my computer without my permission and replaced Windows 7.

Some of my purchased software did not work on Windows 10... Mp3Pro Gain... Total Recorder... and most importantly none of the OOTPB versions 12 through 17... no data would be lost.

So I took it to the repair shop and asked if they could restore Windows 7... they assured me it was a simple operation... they had done it before... I told them I had put 12-13 years into OOTPB and didn't want it damage... no problem they said.

During the uninstallation of Windows 10 the computer froze... for a week the repair shop worked on it... they put in a new hard drive and said everything was fine... but it wasn't.

All of the game data seems to be in my new hard drive... but I couldn't activate the game... neither 12, nor 17... I put the OOTP ID/Serial Code in when the game asked for it, but a window popped up saying it "couldn't activate the game... try it again later"... later didn't work either.

Your help and knowledge would be appreciated.

I sent Andreas an private message, but haven't heard from him yet... He has always been good to reply whenever I have had any problems purchasing the game or downloading it..

They have a monopoly... we have very little choice in choosing operation systems.

For 5-6 months they have been posting a window on my computer asking me to down load Windows 10 free... I always said no... little do you think they would just do it arbitrarily without you permission... but they did it.

After some research, I found that they have been downloading Windows 10 updates on my Windows 7 for months without my knowing approval.

We need a class action against them for doing this... they have cost me time, money, software loss and possible loss of OOTPB dynasties that I have spent years on.

Hey, what can the little guy do about it?

I have an icon at the bottom of my screen to install Windows 10, and I get nagged about it at least once a week. I don't want Windows 10 on this old machine. When I get a new one, it will come with Windows 10, and that will be OK, because the new machine will have more memory, a faster processor, and more hard drive space than the one I'm currently using. Until then, LEAVE ME ALONE.

Hi Eugene,

I'm sorry to hear about the Windows 10 disaster you've been through.
The good news is that I should be able to fix your activation problems.

I just sent you a private message, so feel free to contact me whenever you have a moment.

Just be sure, you tell it not to install it... otherwise the thing that happened to me could happen to you.

I have Windows 10 upgraded from my previous version, bought the non-steam version of OOTP 17 and it runs without a problem.

There is no problem with OOTP17 and Windows 10.

I don't think there is a problem running OOTP17 on Windows 10, I think the problem arose when my repairman uninstalled it and put it back on Windows 7... it's likely that this caused the problem.

Many thanks to Scott Winn... he activated my licenses for me.

Now I will see if my game data is OK when I install OOTP12 and OOTP17 on my new computer.

No doubt it is but that should be my choice or Eugene's choice not Microsoft's.

I've been using Windows 10 on multiple machines since it came out. Once you turn off the massive privacy violations (instructions are at https://fix10.isleaked.com), it's great: easier to use, more configurable, more robust. I never had a single problem upgrading.

Pro tip: add StartIsBack to make it even better (StartIsBack: real start menu for Windows 8 and Windows 10).

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Microsoft can decide what OSes it will support and which ones it will not. They can prompt you to migrate (pro tip: pay attention when they do). That's THEIR choice.

If you want to be a Luddite or be left behind, that's on you. I have a neighbor who runs a business on a computer running Windows XP in glorious 16-color 1024x768. I cringe every time I see it.

Just disabling cortana at the command line made it great for me

Doing the whole package will pretty much get them out of your business. That and browse using Firefox in private mode...or Tor if you REALLY need privacy.

This forum should definitely stick to baseball topics.

I had more, but need to download some closed source program from Russia to fix my computer.
