How to Become Expansion Team in 77 (so I pick the players)
I want to be the Blue Jays of 77 -but I want to pick the players that will be on my team from the protected lists of other teams. Is there a way to do this? Do I need to start in 1976 before the team even existed?
Thanks, |

Start in 1976 and dont control a team and sim to the draft. You can control all teams in teh days leading up to expansion and pick their protected list. time consuming but that way you get more who were on the actual 1977 teams. I did this for the 93 Marlins.

It would be nice to have an expansion draft mode where you have the option of taking a team before the draft. I imagine it would be tough to implement into this game, but I do know it can be done..

If you start in 1977 with the Jays or Mariners you already have a team in place vs being able to draft them yourself. Granted the expansion draft happened in November or so of the previous year but some don't want to sim the previous season then take over the new team at that point. At least that's what i am coming up with. For me simming the previous season then taking over a team as I did with the 1993 Marlins gave me a chance to scout players, so I didn't mind.

If I do it this way, will the teams protect the players? It made it sound above like I would be in charge of protecting them, which is not what I want.

My favorite replay choice is start in 1958 and move forward through 1960. Then when the WS is over, I go to the screen where I can choose a team to manage. If the expansion teams are not yet listed, I push the single day sim button until they show up. I pick the Angels or Senators and proceed to the draft. I advise going back a few seasons in order to increase the number of bodies in the league. If you only go back one season, players who were not active in (in this case 1960) but were in the minors and could have played won't be there. Going back to 1958 seems to fix that for me.

Maybe this isn't possible, but when you sim the previous year, maybe guys have different years then they did in real life and are not available? |
