A question about historical sims

When playing historical , what happens if you have league evolution off? I'd like to start a historical league and just add my own teams when I want instead of the league expanding when it did in real life. Can I do this or will it screw things up, such as schedules and league history?

to do this in a historical league uncheck 'automatically expand league' under the historical settings.
