The North American Baseball Association- A Beginner's Experiment
Hello all,
I've been a dabbler in OOTP for a few years now and have browsed the forums for just about as long. I currently still play OOTP 16. All my previous history has been doing historical replays without much imagination. Today I'm trying something new and I wanted to share it with you all if you will find it interesting. This is my first step into custom fictional leagues and I'm using it to play around with the game some. I want to use this forum somewhat as a way to journal my league. I'm not planning on providing you information in a matter-of-fact way. If I screw up, I'm going to say so. Essentially there will be no 4th wall here. Now some information on my league... I decided to create the North American Baseball Association or NABA. My ultimate idea is to keep building on this league in several different ways. I'm starting with one 24 team league and want to grow it from there. For instance, my next step I think will be to add a minor league, as of now I'm just using a reserve roster of 15 to go with the 25 man roster. Obviously there's a ton that gets covered in league setup that I'm probably going to neglect in this post. I'd love to have a back and forth with you all those if there are specifics you want to know about, please don't hesitate to ask. To begin though, NABA is a 24-team league set starting in 1950. I just picked an arbitrary year. Originally I was going to try to come up with some clever backstory for why baseball evolved into a league throughout North America, but I couldn't come up with anything I was satisfied with. With that being the case, this is essentially just a different universe than ours. That's further exemplified by the the fact that even though we are set in 1950 I'm using settings from 2000. So teams with play in a fairly modern style. I'm guessing I'm going to get numbers that resonate with the steroid era. I'm fine with that for now. I might play around with these settings in later years or I may leave them. I decided on the cities for my league based on the 24 most populated cities in North America in 1950. I plan on evolving this as time goes on and populations migrate. I could also expand the league, and will need cities for minors when the time approaches and I start that plan too. Like I said, I'm new to posting on the forum and doing any sort of dynasty report. I'm about to type out all the team names. I've seen screenshots on this site before. If someone wants to quickly explain to me how to set those up, please feel free. Its by no means a requirement though. The teams: Global Conference Havana Bonnies Los Angeles Orangemen Milwaukee Warriors New Orleans Zephyrs New York Skyscrapers Philadelphia Quakers Pittsburgh Alleghenys San Juan Bautistas St. Louis Browns Toronto Hogs Vancouver Veterans Washington Justices Universal Conference Baltimore Terrapins Boston Eagles Buffalo Blues Chicago Spuds Cincinnati Kings Cleveland Lakers Detroit Motors Houston Buffaloes Mexico City Palacios Minneapolis Millers Montreal Saints San Fransisco Baymen Most of the team names are either based off an old team name for that city or something that is typically associated with that city. One again, being a newbie, someone would have to show me how to use them, but if anyone wants to make me some logos or anything I'd be super grateful. If not, that's totally cool too. The playoffs will be the top 2 teams from each conference facing off followed by the championship. The seasons are 154 games. There is no inter-league play. The idea is you play all 11 teams in your league 14 times. Preseason predictions have the Houston Buffaloes as the best team in the league with 93 wins. They'd play the Cleveland Lakers in the first round. In the Global Conference the Vancouver Veterans should play the Milwaukee Warriors. Obviously this is a brand new league so I have no information necessarily about what players are good outside of ratings and the preseason predictions. I'm not going to go into specific players without actual stats unless you guys have specific requests. That should about cover it for my first post. I'd love this to be a back and forth with some of you guys so don't hesitate to respond and post and ask me questions about the league itself or my thought process. If I've already screwed something up, let me know, but it may not stop me I might just rationalize it and continue. If you've read this far, then thank you already! |
