NCAA Football Thoughts - week 12
I was hoping the UCF/USF game would be good. And it did not disappoint. Players on both teams made play after big play after huge play. Hopefully Central Florida can finally crack the top 10. They play Memphis for the AAC title this weekend. The Tigers only loss is to the Knights..........
......The title game that did disappoint was the Apple Cup. I thought Wash St would put up a better fight than they did......... ........Speaking of rivalries, I miss Oklahoma vs Nebraska & Texas vs Texas A&M......... ......The big news was the top 2 teams getting knocked down. It will be hard, IMO, to stick Miami in the final 4 when they lost to a team that lost @ home to my favorite. But Pitt seems to be making it a habit of knocking off the top echelon. They beat to Power 5 conference champs last year & this year they struck the unbeaten #2 team in the country........ .......I admit to being wrong about Auburn. I started recognizing Auburn had a better shot than I thought when it was pointed out how the Tigers usually beat the Tide when they have a Top10 team. Auburn looked to clearly be the better squad Saturday. I still believe Bama will find their way into the final 4. But Bama had yet to be seriously challenged in the overrated SEC. My bro said the best team, meaning the Tide, was about to be left out. I counter, "based on what? Recruiting rankings?" The best Bama beat was LSU & Miss St. Hardly an overwhelming resume........ ......Sticking with the SEC, do you realize if Arkansas realizes their dream & hires Gus Malzhan, the only seniors in the SEC besides Bama who will be playing for the HC that recruited them will be @ Kentucky & Vandy? Why would HS blue chips want to go into a conference w/such little stability? The guy sitting in your living room today is probably going to have a new address before you're able to legally drink......... ......Title games...Pac12 kicks it off Friday w/USC vs Stanford. Trojans won the 1st match......Akron plays Toledo in Detroit for the MAC crown (shouldn't they move this to Ohio somewhere?)......Fresno St hosts Boise St for the 2nd week in a row for the Mtn West championship.....N.Texas travels to Flo Atl for the Conf USA trophy......And, of course, you have the remaining Power 5 matches.....TCU vs Oklahoma in Dallas (Big 12ish), Georgia vs Auburn in Atlanta (SEC), Miami vs Clemson in Charlotte (ACC) & Wisky vs Oh St in Indy (Big T1e4n)...... .....One other conference....Troy St meets Ark St for a share of the Sub Belt title. If App St is upset @ home buy Louisiana earlier in the afternoon, then they'll know it is for the outright championship...... ....What happened to Peter Warrick?............

I remember from 1997-2003 they played the game at the highest seed's home stadium (with 5 of those games played at Marshall, 1 in Toledo and 1 in Bowling Green) with the home team winning 6 of those 7 games....the lone road team to win was a Ben Roethlisberger led Miami (OH) win over Bowling Green. I spent 4+ years at the University of Toledo and a lot of the people in the Toledo area consider themselves more Michiganders (is that a word?) than Ohioans. It's about a 25 minute drive to Ford Field from Toledo's campus.

Considering Toledo is probably supposed to be in Michigan anyway, that can't be surprising.
